TARGET MARKET

My Magazine challenges the conventions of todays media projects as all of them aim at a specific target market, this is different to mine as mine aims to target the wider majority of people and it has sections in the magazine which will address all of the different genres needs, for example, it will contain information about 3 different types of music such as indie, rock and Rap.

Although a magazine which I have followed the conventions of is NME, they make their magazines about a number of different genres and this is where I got my idea from, although I have gone against magazines such as vibe and kerrang who just aim at one audience, this therefor makes my magazine unique in this way.

MASTHEAD

Like NME my masthead only goes a proportion of the way across the page, this is because I liked the way in which the NME magazine was laid out and this also enabled me to follow a convention of a normal magazine. And this gave my magazine a better overall look to it.

PAGE LAYOUT
For my page layout I have also drawn inspiration from other magazines such as NME, this was after I firstly reviewed my preliminary magazine and realised that it was not good enough, I released that my magazine looked like the magazine Raygun and this was not what I was looking for, so I then went and looked at NME and took aspects from it such as the masthead to enable me to make my magazine look more professional.

PAGE LAYOUT CONTINUED

The page layout which I went with in the end was the F layout, this is where the information is spread out in an F shape, so in my magazine cover the masthead takes the readers eyes across the page, the image then takes them back and the text takes it back across and then more text brings it back. And this is also similar to NMEs coverage layout.

COSTUMES AND PROPS

In my magazine I used not a lot of props but I did need to take into close consideration the way in which I would represent my models, for example, as I had decided to use 3 different genres I had to find 3 different key models to represent these genres, so I used lots of different clothing choices and props to do so, in the end I used a guitar to express the rock side of my magazine and I used an indie model to express the indie aspect and a rap model to express the rap side, so this does support the conventions of using direct models to represent the genres of music which I have included in the magazine.

COLOUR SCHEME
For my colour scheme I kept within the conventions, this being even though I wanted my magazine to be different, I went for the black, white and whatever the main artist was wearing, I did this so that the colours would be able to flow from page to page and this would enable my magazine to look more professional and it would fit in with the generics. I also took into account how I would make my magazine different and how things would be made stand out, so for any important information on my product I used a different colour such as red, and I would also add an effect to it, this fits with conventions of magazines such as NME and Billboard, although NME was the main that I took ideas from.

TYPOGRAPHY
With my font I had to take into account the way in which I went against conventions by using different genres within one magazine and to do this I had to experiment with my typography, to do this I looked at what different genres of magazines used for there typography, so for me I looked at magazines such as NME, Vibe and Kerrang this is because they are the main ones when it comes down to Indie, Rap and Rock, so I took ideas from each of these and this allowed me to express the different genres, and this allowed me to attract the audience as well, also the way in which I address the audience is of convention, this is because I wanted to make them feel welcome into my magazine and it enabled me to appeal the magazine directly to the readership.

As you can see I have used big bold text at the top and have also incorporated the main story in the centre of the page in clear font.

I have also used different fonts and sizes over the page to express the different genres within my magazine.

GENRE(S)

Rock

In my magazine I have very clearly used 3 different types of genres, and I have used different images fonts and colours across my Coverpage, Contents page and double page spread , and this is so that I can stick with a constant flow of genres throughout the magazine and this goes with conventions that magazines such as NME use on there magazines and this is good so that my magazine represents an overall more professional magazine view, Rap and gives it a better look to it. But still the idea of 3 genres within one magazine does go against normal conventions and I like the idea of this as it makes the magazine individual.

Indie

SHOT FRAMING
With the images I have incorporated in my magazine I have attempted to use the conventions which will provide me with overall better magazine looking images, for example I have used a variety of close-ups, midshots and angles of shots, and this is what has kept my magazine images within conventions. I found it important to keep the images similar as otherwise it would not look like a magazine as the images will have to stand out and if they were not taken with professional ideas in mind then they would not do so.
