WHAT IS SELF CONFIDENCE???


According to OXFORD DICTIONARY : SELF CONFIDENCE is a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. The key element to self-confidence is an acceptance of the myriad consequences of a particular situation, be they good or bad.

Traits of Self confident person


believe in their own abilities, strengths and powers and is not burdened by doubts, and low self-esteem. But they do not force their beliefs and ideas on others because they are good and creative in convincing others to their way of thinking. They do not seek the approval of others. believe they are special and has a mission in this world. They expect to be treated well and with respect. They are not afraid or embarrassed to demand for their rights. are ambitious in a realistic way and are open about their aspirations or goals. They believe in their plans and are not embarrassed at all to convince others about the benefits of joining them in reaching the goal. Any failure is considered as a temporary setback or challenge. A self-confident person loves challenges.. dream high and act on them. They are able to visualize themselves as successful, popular, the best in whatever they do. accept compliments, praises and admiration with grace. accept themselves as they are. They dont feel the need to conform with the majority just to be accepted in any group. They are not afraid of disapproval but use criticisms as constructive feedback. are open to new ideas and are willing to discuss them even if the new idea is opposed to their own. They are willing to acknowledge their mistakes and then move on to finish the job. have a sense of humor and this could be why they are not weighted down by the concerns and stress that top ranking people usually have. hardworking, responsible, dependable and always prepared to do the work at hand in the best way possible.

Survey was undertaken using a structured questionnaire, which used rating scale method where the respondents were asked to rate 15 parameters on a scale of 1-5, where 5= Strongly disagree 4=Disagree 3=Neutral 2=Agree 1=Strongly agree No. of respondents :

Mode of survey :
Respondents varied from Students, Managers, Sr. managers, supervisors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, Accountant etc.

Null Hypothesis:
There is no significant difference between the self confidence of working professional and students.

Alternate Hypothesis:
There is a significant difference between their self confidence.

Statistical analysis
Applying z- test Standard error =1.4966 z (critical )= at 5 % level of significance=2.933 z (observed)=1.5434

As z (observed) < z (critical) Hence null hypothesis is accepted. i.e. there is no significant difference between the self confidence of working professional and students.

Null Hypothesis:
There is no significant difference between the self confidence of males and females.

Alternate Hypothesis:
There is a significant difference between their self confidence.

As z (observed) < z (critical) Hence null hypothesis is accepted. i.e. there is no significant difference between the self confidence of males and females.

Recommendations
Recognize your insecurities Talk about it with friends and loved ones. Remember that no one is perfect. Identify your successes. Be thankful for what you have Be positive, even if you don't feel the same way Accept compliments gracefully Look in the mirror and smile. Stick to your principles. Help others Fake it. ( because when u start nodding your head, you start to feel positive)

Sources of error
Small sample. Specification error. (like question : I am generally satisfied with myself) Coverage or frame error ( as only urban population has been covered) Bias and variable error (random errors). The attitude of the respondent towards the survey.
