Group Leader Everards Family Story


Everard Of Jamaican descent, Everards family immigrant two prior generations before him. His grandparents were the first Jamaicans in their family to arrive in the US. Later they sent for Everards parents who were still in Jamaica and came to the US after his grandparents were able to obtain stable employment and save money to send for their children. Once their children came and settled they went to school graduated and obtained good jobs and later started 4/17/12

Group Leader Selenas Family Story


Selena of Dominican descent is the first generation born in the US. Selenas family arrived in the US ten years ago. Because of the poor environment in the Dominican Republic Selenas parents came to the US knowing only friends who had come here and had no family to support them. Selenas parents determined to make a better way of life for themselves after being married only three years came to the US and stayed in the shelter for 9 months until they were 4/17/12

Joses family is from Mexico. Joses great grandfather came to the US thirty years prior to Jose being born. While in Mexico Joses grandfather often dreamed of coming to the US and through hard work and saving pennies for many many years, he finally got the opportunity to come to the US and join his cousins who were already living in the US. Kenyas family struggled while in South Africa for years. Her grandmother was a political activist in South Africa and unfortunately she was killed while protesting the elections of the new African President. During the protest her grandmother had acid thrown on her face and later died while the family was trying to make arrangements for her to come the US to receive the best possible health care. Kenyas father is still seeking justice for the death of his mother and 4/17/12

Group Leader Kimora


Kimoras family came to the US when Kimora was only two years old determined to have a better life for their children. Kimoras grandparents chose to remain in China and visit once every two years. Kimoras parents are very serious about their daughters education and they encourage her to study very hard. Kimora is not allowed to watch television or play any games during the school week. Kimoras group researched the information on Chinas culture. 4/17/12
