Program evaluation: The effectiveness of the dual language program

The Project
Program Evaluation Time frame: March 12, 2012- May 4, 2012 Location: North Grade Elementary, Palm Beach County School District

Summary
Objective: To show the effectiveness of the Dual Language Program using an outcome based evaluation Target Groups: Kindergarten to 5th Grade Regular and Dual Language Classrooms Main Activities: Teacher observations, ESOL coordinator interviews, questionnaires, classroom observations, administrator interviews

Background
According to research, schools that implement the Dual Language Program with fidelity show higher test results compared to classrooms that do not implement the Dual Language curriculum.

Objective
Aim of the Project: The project should be able to give some knowledge of how effective the Dual Language Program is for both teachers and students

Indicators to measure the effectiveness of the evaluation: 1. Compare Reading Running Records for K-2 Dual Language and Regular classrooms 2. Compare FAIR results of the students in the Dual Language and Regular classrooms 3. Compare the FCAT results for Grades 3-5 students in the Dual Language and Regular classrooms 4. Compare the behavior records (discipline referrals, suspensions, etc) in the Dual Language and Regular classroom 5. Compare the best practices that teachers are using in the regular classroom and the Dual Language Classroom

Resources
Resources needed to carry the evaluation: interview forms, long forms of the teacher evaluation from Marzano, classroom walk through observation sheets

Reflection on my project and the FPLS


Instructional Leadership-this project will allow me to understand best practices in different types of classrooms and apply it to student learning Managing the Learning Environment-this project will allow me to view how to maximizing the use of resources Learning, Accountability and Assessment- This project will allow me to monitor the success of the students in both regular and Dual Language classrooms Decision Making Strategies-I will be able to collect and analyze data to improve the classrooms in both Dual Language and regular classroom

Reflection on my project and the FPLS continued


Human Resource Development- This project will allow me to develop personnel and mentor programs to help the Dual Language and regular classrooms Ethical Leadership-This program will help me understand the integrity and honesty that is needed when talking to teachers about their observations Community and Stakeholder Partnership- I will be able to responding to the needs of the diverse community surrounding North Grade Elementary Diversity-This project will allow me to understand the cultural relationship in the classrooms in both the Dual Language and Regular
