The Multi-genre project!
1st ~ select a writer who has significantly influenced American literature 2nd ~ conduct research about the writers life and work
You will produce 5 artifacts to make up their Multi-genre project. These 5 artifacts must have a Theme to link them.

The 5 artifacts Students must select a text (novel, play, poem, essay, or short story) written by the writer selected for this project and complete a critical literary analysis of the text that includes:
an explanation of its meaning and significance to the writer, an examination of any literary elements, symbols, imagery, allusions, figurative language, or themes, and citations from sources that assisted you in your analysis and that support your thesis.

You must also include four other work products. Some examples are;
Narrative Poem (any style) Short story Fairy tale, fable or myth Dialogue Dramatic monologue Expository Interview Resume Diary/ travel journal entries Maps Newsletter Newspaper article Obituary Timeline Web page Creative Song lyrics Eulogy Letter Descriptive writing Campaign speech Brochure Sermon Advertisements (classified and general) Comic strip/ Political cartoon

Your teacher must approve any work products selected in advance. They should be coherent pieces that work together They should include information from the various research sources throughout the products

Procedure Follow these steps to complete the Multi-genre Research Project: 1. Identify a writer who has significantly influenced literature and conduct research that will explain how this writer has made a significant contribution.

Turn in ~ Discussion: Exploring Topic Choices

2. Brainstorm a list of questions that you would like to answer during your research and begin a Process Journal that will document your success and challenges while working on this project. The Process Journal should include your plan for gathering information about the topic and notes that can be used for your Annotated Bibliography. This is the place to record ideas, questions, and reflections. You will add information to the Process Journal throughout the time you work on this project.

3. 4. 5. Procedure Continue researching to gather information from a variety of credible sources. Create an annotated bibliography and write abstracts. Consider which genres will work well with the information you have gathered. Submit the Student Proposal Form and Annotated Bibliography. Select an over-arching theme or image that will connect your project. Continue working to create the work products and reflections. Revise and edit. Assemble the project.

8/21 ~ Think of an Author you may want to research. 8/25 ~ Make a choice of an author and post your discussion response. You should be doing research from now on. 8/29 ~ Learn to use a Process Journal 9/5 ~ Annotated Bibliography due 9/16 ~ Descriptive Abstracts

Format You may use either Microsoft Word or PowerPoint 1. Title pageInclude full name, date, teachers name, course name, your choice of images. 2. Table of ContentsInclude genre and title of the piece as well as the following required sections. 3. IntroductionInclude an introduction of the subject and any information the reader will need to know in order to build meaning while reviewing the project. Consider responding to the following questions and statements:
Why did you select this person? Respond fully to the focus question. Describe the central theme or unifying motif that runs through the project. (This may be in the form of a phrase, image, theme, or quote that appears in each piece.) Explain the sequence of work products

Format 4. Complete products 15 in the order that makes the most sense for the project.
Each of the 5 products should be followed by a brief reflection that describes why that particular product was selected and how it fits with the overall project. Consider sharing any challenges or successes experienced while working on the piece. Information and notes from the Process Journal should be used for work product reflections.
