FYPC 2012 members introduction Defining an FYP FYP 2012 the complete time line Available project categories FYP sources and resources FYP requirements Project evaluation and grading General rules / regulations Q&A session
Defining an FYP
The
yearly FYPC session starts from the beginning of the month of March and ends in the month of December There can be a minimum of 3 (three) and a maximum of 5 (five) members in a group The students are expected to complete their project within a period of less then one year The FYPC divides the whole session in two different phases each of them ending in some form of evaluation
number 1 is Design phase Ranges from March till July In this phase students are expected to:
Perform a thorough research Generate a feasible plan to get
implementable design Define project workload of each member Work out all the resources (including hardware and software) Evaluate near accurate cost required to complete the FYP Learn tools and techniques to complete the FYP
an optimal,
arranges Poster Exhibition in the month of July Students will have to present their projects on the poster(s) in a laymans language but maintaining the standards of project presentation / documentation It is expected this year that FYPC may arrange people from outside as well as media sources for appealing projects
number 2 is Implementation phase Ranges from August till December Following tasks need to be performed in this phase:
Designing hardware Software coding System testing Preparing report
are submitted in the month of January (next year) FYPC will announce dates / deadlines After the report submission, a schedule will be displayed according to which the students have to:
Present Demonstrate Give Viva, and to an allocated panel
Additionally,
they have to submit their code and soft copy of FYP report with user manual, project setup, and demo video on a CD-ROM
/ Interfacing Web applications 3D graphics applications Communications and Networking Mobile computing Distributed computing Artificial Intelligence
Hardware / Interfacing
This
category deals with any project related to modifying and/or integrating extra hardware to enhance the functionality of a Personal Computer Related areas include:
Innovative
PC peripherals HCI (Human Computer Interaction) Integrating Embedded systems with PC (like Industrial control)
Web applications
This
category covers any kind of application running in a web browser on a Personal Computer Applications are portals, kiosks, web monitoring / simulation etc with a programmed hardware interface available as data source / sink Application must be easily interfaced with social websites and other social services Some of the available technologies include:
3D Applications
Several
options available:
Full-blown
3D games with multiple levels and a level editor 3D on the web (may be using VRML) Interactive web based simulation of existing data with results in 3D Complete 3D movies (this University is the first institution to make the longest 3D movie in the world!)
Communications / Networking
A
Innovative
Network simulators Dedicated hardware (or a complete embedded system) for fault finding in existing networks Protocol analyzers / filters / converters Any optimal routing algorithm Extension / availability of enhanced network services using cheap and readily available solutions
Mobile computing
The
technology of today Choices include integrating cellular technology with PCs Making a network of mobile to share the services of a single PC Running transparently PC-hosted applications on cell phones Available technologies are:
Android iOS
Additionally
designing software tools and utilities for transparent execution of interplatform applications
Distributed computing
This
involves projects communicating or utilizing different types of resources between a complete network, different types of networks or two or more PCs located at a considerable distance Most common examples are clusters, grids and cloud computing Extensive support already available on the Internet and mostly free
Artificial Intelligence
An
umbrella term used to represent multiple emerging technologies most common being:
Image / scene recognition Speech recognition Object detection / localization Mimicking human behavior Path finding
The
project related to implement above applications may purely be software without any need of hardware interface Use technology to help the disabled persons
and novelty Industrial Interaction Enhancement of good previous projects Implementation of research projects Market awareness and recent technology trends
are advised to consult teachers of their university for working on their ideas this helps in selection of Internal advisor They may search renowned international universities web sites (under Bachelors section Final Year Projects) They may visit well known organizations for getting projects (in this case they have to submit a letter from the organization) They may consult passing out students to continue working on their ideas They may even come up with their own ideas and must visit most appropriate teachers to shape it as Final Year Project
FYP Advisors
Students
can mention probable Internal advisor but the FYPC will be the final authority In addition, there should be an External advisor to be arranged by the students who should be a professional graduate from a well known Engineering Institution and must not have any blood relation with any of the students of a group All the demos of FYP will be arranged in the University campus (exceptions
final year project is a (0+3) (two semesters) grade course! University favors final year students by giving them an extra off day apart from Sundays Students are expected to utilize 3 (three) hours per week (from their additional off day) Students have to prepare a bi-weekly report and have to submit it to their Internal advisor, who after completing one month will submit it to FYPC
purpose of advisors is to guide the students or to set their direction after considering their situation In no way any advisor is responsible for any incompletion of any project whatsoever Group leader will be (mostly) representing his/her projects under different scenarios Once finalized, no student is allowed to change / modify their project group Same rule applies to the project itself changing or modifying a project or a group after its finalization means 25% deduction in total grades!
careful in submitting proposal report whatever you are presenting in the report should have to be completed otherwise project may be considered incomplete and might be suspended Last year some illegal sources of FYP investors were detected and some projects were identified designed by them please be careful or you will lose your complete year without any excuse!
Conclusion
FYP needs continuous hard work, research and development with sincerity to achieve completion of proposed project
Thank You
