HOT WATER SUPPLY

The cold water flows trough the water jacket in the boiler, where its temperature is raised and convection currents are induced, which causes the water to rise and circulate. The hot water supply is drawn off from the top of the cylinder by a horizontal pipe at least 450mm long to prevent one pipe circulation being set up in the vent or expansion pipe. This precipitation of lime occurs when hard water is heated to temperatures of between 50 and 70 C, which is the ideal temperature range

ADVANTAGES

DISADVANTAGES

Less pipe work Back siphonage and smaller storage High pressure of system making it water as may cause cheaper to install. the pipe damage Simplest system. Not suitable for Drinking water supplying a central available at wash heating circuit or for basin. hard water areas.

This system is design to overcome the problem of furring, which occurs with the direct hot water system.
The basic difference is in the cylinder design, which now becomes a heat exchanger. The supply circuit from the cylinder follows the same pattern as the direct hot water system, but a separate feed and expansion system is required for the

DISADVANTAGES

Overcome the problem of furring Large capacity storage system Low pressure of water because use gravity system No back siphonage.

Expensive in cost. Need a big area

SOLAR
Solar hot water systems use basic principles and components to capture incoming solar radiation and heat water for domestic and other uses. Over the years, a variety of system designs have been developed and tested to meet specific consumer needs and environmental conditions

It have two types of solar: Active Passive

Active solar system

Low carbon systems principally use electricity to circulate the fluid through the collector. The use of electricity typically reduces the carbon savings of a system by 10% to 20%.

Active solar hot water systems are designed for those less gentle climates. Although they are a bit more complicated and require electricity to run a circulator pump, active solar hot water systems harvest a lot of energy and save you money.

Passive solar system

A compact system also known as a monobloc has a tank for the heated water and a solar collector mounted on the same chasis. Typically these systems will function by natural convection (thermosiphon) or heatpipes to transfer the heat energy from the collector to the tank.

ELECTRIC

GEYSER

MACHINE HEATER

BOILER

DEFINITION
It is a system where it makes the water become hotter when the water pass through the pipe
The system is control by tab in bathroom

The main part in the system is a heating element

The shape is exactly like coil and its have differents watt, examples;

1000W,1500W,2000W,3000W and 45000W

EXAMPLES OF HEATING ELEMENT

GENERAL FUNCTION
When the switch is on automatically the heating

element becomes hotter At the same time, we open the water tab and the water from tank will flow direct to the pipe at the tab Before it reached the pipe at tab, it pass through at the hotter element heating and the water becomes hot

DEFINITION
Water heating by electricity is usually done by an

immersion heater. This consists of a metal tube containing an insulated electric resistance heater.

SKETCHES

LOCATION

LOCATION OF IMMERSION IN THE TANK

ADVANTAGES
Easy to maintain Low maintenance costs

DISADVANTAGES
Tanks in the attic have a risk of

freezing especially with electric heating Hot water availability is restricted by the heat recovery Power shower capability depending on choice of cylinder time period and the size of cylinder Relatively easy to install

Electric Boilers & Immersion Heaters

Electric boilers are relatively cheap to install and take away the need to

put in a new gas supply.

Electric boilers will provide the heat

requirements and hot water for a entire house. Electric immersion backup is part of most ground source and air source heating systems as they will push the water temperatures up that little bit higher, and work with the units to keep the entire efficiency high.

..SUITABLE PIPE..

Copper Lead and lead alloy Galvanised mild steel Steel

COPPER
Use for hot and cold water, heating, gas and

drainage installation Have high tensile strength Easily bent by a machine or spring Cheap and light in weight

LEAD AND LEAD ALLOY

Very resistant to corrosion, but is affected by

contact with cement mortar Very useful for short connection to sanitary fittings and cistern High maintenance Enables them for high pressure and better than the other pipes

MILD STEEL
May be obtained galvanized or ungalvanized Have high tensile strength Easy to handle and it has smooth internal surface Cheaper than the other types of pipe
