Deforestation is the clearance of naturally occuring forests by cutting or burning.

It is the conversion of forested areas into non forested land. For use. The process of deforestation often takes place in developing countries to establish more agricultural land for cultivation. The removal or destruction of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced bio-diversity.

They produce oxygen. They work as carbon sinks They act as windbreaks. They purify air by absorbing pollutants. They are the source of 25% of medicines. They reduces soil erosion. They encourages health open air activities. They filter out harmful Ultra violet rays. They provide a calming environment by absorbing noise. They increase the beauty of environment.

The term- shifted cultivators..

These are the landless peasants who have followed roads into already damaged forest areas. Shifted cultivators are currently being blamed for 60% of tropical forest loss.

Commercial logging companies cut down mature trees that have been selected for their timber. Timber trade defends itself by saying that this method of selective logging ensures that the forest re-grows naturally and in time, is once again ready for their safe logging practices.

Undistributed and logged forest areas are being totally cleared to provide land for food crops, tree plantations and for grazing cattle. much of what produced is exported to rich industrialized countries and in many cases, crops are grown for export while the local population goes hungry.

The major cause of deforestation is population growth as population growth results in increase in demand of wood products or forested land.

To meet the increasing demand for wood and pulp for houses, furniture and paper developed countries have turned to the huge reserves of tropical forests. For the rapidly growing population of AFRICA and ASIA, wood remains the primary source of fuel for cooking and heating.

Mining and industrial development leads to direct forest loss due to the clearing of land to establish projects. Indigenous people are displaced. Roads are constructed through previously inaccessible lands, opening up the forests. Severe water, air and land pollution occurs from mining and industrial development.

Exposure of soil to sun. Dry and infertile like desert. Loss of volatile nutrients (nitrogen) Rainfall washes away rest of the nutrients. Impossibility of cultivation.

Global warming. Emission of greenhouse gasses(CO2). Direct relationship between deforestation and emission of carbon dioxide. Lesser trees=more CO2 atmosphere.

80-90% of species live in forests. Loss of 50 to 100 species. Extinction of animals and plants.

Drying of water through roots.

Circulation of water in ecosystem of rainforests.

Water remain inside the plant.

Desertification. Limited food and shelter. Unusable land. Cures for deadly diseases. Identification of species.
