India has a significant economic power over the world. With global markets in textiles, agriculture and manufacturing, India has a network of connections all around the world with an input into many MEDCs including: The UK, USA and many European countries. This allows them to have significant control over these industries .
Some of the power and growth of these industries is as a result of FDI (foreign direct investment). Shown in the growth of the IT industry and statistics in the figure. Over two years the FDI doubled into Indias economy between 2004 and 2006.

Military Power
India s Military forces are over 1.3 billion people active in the county today with many more in reserve; rated as the third highest country for this second only to China and the USA.
Although it has only 100 nuclear missiles it still has a form of protection from foreign attacks. The country also has access to specialised equipment and high tech weaponry including the latest tanks, ballistic missiles and guns for their forces. Here is a picture of one of the latest MIG-29 fighter jets (worth around $29 million each).

Cultural Power
The Indian language is the second most widely spoken language around the world. This is possibly as a result of it being the second largest nation. This allows the spread of this language all around the world 380 million speakers.

There is also a significant proportion of the country that has a religious belief. The most predominant being Hinduism.
India also has a large input on fashion with bright coloured dresses and their own film industry of Bollywood. There is incredible power in this and the messages these cultural factors can have.

Geographical Power
The area consequently has good access to resources such as access to minerals due to its size India does have a large area for agriculture and farmland and a sizable oil and gas industry. Which is required to reach rapidly growing demand as a result of industrialisation, accelerated growth in population and the increasing affordability of cars. The sheer size of the country is astounding. At 3.3 million km it is the third largest country in the world. It has an enormous population of 1.1 billion people around 1/6 of the worlds total population.
