Energy Scenario in India

Requirement of Power in India is more than 125 GW

per year. Only 80% of this is produced in India. Installed capacity 1,70,229 MW from all sources. 86% of this energy comes from thermal and hydro plants 2% from nuclear and 11% from renewable energy

Energy scenario in Tamil Nadu

At present installed capacity is 10,364.5 MW of which

only 8500 is available. Demand is more than 12000 MW Acute power shortage of 2500-4000 MW

Renewable energy
In India(2011-12)
Wind power: 2023 MW, 16179 MW Solar power: 445.55 MW, 481.48 MW

Others: 689.2 MW, 6468.92 MW

In Tamil Nadu(2011-12) Wind power: 6696.61 MW Solar power: 10.00 MW Others: 865.45 MW

TEDA
Undertaken a massive project covering whole of Tamil

Nadu for development of solar energy Four tenders released by TEDA Tender for home lighting system Tender for street lighting system Tender for RMU Tender for third party inspection

Benefits of the project

Lesser load on the grid
Clean energy, abundant supply, scalable, widely

available Lesser power shortage Lesser pollution, lesser usage of limited resources Reaching remote areas

Visit to Softeon technologies

90 PV panels worth 30 lakhs
Each panel generates 24 volt or 280 watts of power total capacity of 25 kilowatt

Used aluminum to assemble the pv panels instead of

iron Use of charge controllers

Conference: Hotel Raintree

Topic: Solar energy- is it a viable option now?
Fastest growing sector, 10bn market, 22%CAGR 22000 MW target by 2020, 3000 mw by 2016 for Tamil

Nadu Present installed capacity 23 GW, generation-50 bn units $9.5 bn invested in 2011

What is stopping us: high installation cost,

connectivity, system trips off Future: Cost Reduction factors Economies of scale Learning by doing R&D Market conditions Viability- reducing cost(35-40%), large incremental demand, well endowed solar radiation, emerging grid parity

Third party inspection

Questionnaire consisting of various field
Stake holders involved TEDA Third party inspectors Panchayat Software required Visit to Polaris Call center

Cost Cutting: TEDA

bank charges books and periodical convayance electricity charges fuel charges (7 vehicals) governing body meeting office maintanance postage and courier professional charges refreshment rent and water charges repairs and maintanance(others) salary staff welfare expenses

stationary and printing

Recommendations for TEDA

Most of the costs incurred are establishment expenses
Use of government speed post services as often as

possible. Petrol powered vehicles to be converted into LPG powered vehicles more use of solar energy Use of internet and full computerization to reduce the paper cost Buy the printer

Printer- Analysis
Printer cost Lease monthly payment Loan amount Loan period Interest rate EMI Cartridge amount(per 24000 pages) 1.75 lakhs Rs. 3500 1.75 lakhs 4 yrs 12% p.a. Rs. 4561 Rs. 2500

Depreciation and tax benefits Suggestion: purchase the printer
