SYSTEM IMAGING - GENERAL STEPS

Create base image. Install just the OS (physical hardware is my preference). Install Remote Server Admin Tools (NETDOM.EXE). Install updates and patches (Service Pack 1). Install any software you dont have a package for. Add local admin accounts (if needed). Arrange icons as needed and setup default profile. Create working image using imaging tool. Sysprep system using sysprep.xml file. Create sysprep image using imaging tool. Create sysprep.xml file. Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK). Sysprep instructions (not Microsofts!).

SYSTEM IMAGING - GENERAL STEPS

Collect drivers for all your various hardware.

Copy sysprepped image to Altiris Deployment Server.

Copy collected drivers to Altiris Deployment Server. Create a DS job and script to:
Deploy sysprepped image. Determine the system drive. Inject drivers Inject the Altiris 7.1 Agent Inject the PC name.

SYSTEM IMAGING - GENERAL STEPS

Create NS policies to:
Query system for which applications need to be delivered. Deliver applications for applicable image. Determine image compliancy.

We use a custom tool called Imagemon as an

interface between our technicians and Altiris DS.

System is booted with Altiris Boot CD (ISO).

Drivers are downloaded and injected.

Base imaging is completed. System has its name and image code, and the Altiris Agent

has been injected.

System reboots, Windows goes through mini-setup, reboots

again, then logs us in as a local administrator.

Custom inventory has run, and Altiris is determining which image

build policy to apply to this system.

Image Build policy is running. It is downloading and installing the

required packaged applications for RTIs Corporate Gold Image.

The image build policy is now compliant, and all required

packaged applications have been installed. System is ready for use.
