INTRODUCTION:
What Is Competitiveness ?
Competitiveness is a comparative concept of the ability and performance of a firm, sub-sector or country to sell and supply goods and/or services in a given market. .

Textiles, defined as felt or spun fibers made into yarn and subsequently netted, looped, knit or woven to make fabrics, appeared in the Middle East during the late stone age.

The textile and apparel industry contributes significantly to the Indian economy. It accounts for 14 per cent of total industry output and nearly 5 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). With China leading the global textile trade, India ranks second with 8 per cent of the total. India contributes to nearly 4 per cent of total textile exports and 3 per cent of total apparel exports in the world. China is the largest producer of cotton, cashmere, flax, and silk, as well as the biggest manufacturer and exporter of textiles in the world. The majority of Chinas apparel exports are designed by foreign customers and made from imported fabrics. Most of these garments are intended for mass markets, with moderate or low prices. A few factories produce high quality clothing for highfashion foreign brands. Export value of fabrics reached US$35.68 billion
INDIA --It provides direct employment to 38 million people and is the largest foreign exchange earner, contributing nearly 20 per cent to Indias total exports. India has the highest number of looms- 1.8 million shuttle looms 200,000 shuttle-less looms (at 3 per cent of global capacity) and 3.9 million hand looms (at 85 per cent of global capacity). India has the second highest number of spindles in the world with 40 million spindles CHINA --with the improvement of people's living standard, the market demand for downstream products like clothes, household articles, and commercial textiles has been increasing despite the rapidly rising prices of textile fabrics; consequently, textile fabric industry still boasts huge development potentiality, and high-quality, healthy, and fashionable products can gain greater market recognition.
India was among Chinas top 20 trading partners, fifteenth in imports, and eighteenth in exports. China was a much more important trade partner for India, ranking in the top five, second in imports, and third in exports. The details of Indias trade with China, from Indias perspective.
