Group 2

Engineering student Bryan Springer has a high paying job summer job as a forklifter, that enables him to attend college. Bryans supervisor , Max Morrison, told him to dump half of the 50-gallon drum filled with the used machine coolant. Bryan knew that the coolant was toxic, and he mentioned it to max. But Max was not swayed, and he fully expecting Bryan to dump the used coolant.

Bryan

needs to decide what he should do to the used coolant, his supervisor told him to dump down the drain, but he knew that pouring the used coolant to the drain could be hazardous to the environment and also violating the law.

To

learn the alternative solutions in dealing with this situation which we may encounter in the future as we work in the industry.

Strength

Bryan might achieve a good reputation to his supervisor.

Weakness

Bryans job will be affected by any decision he will make. It may lead into termination of his job.

Opportunity

Bryan can continue his job as a forklift operator. Bryan can attend college without having to take out any student loan.

Threats

Improper disposal of machine coolant will harm the environment. The companys reputation will be affected if someone from competitors side witnessed the dumping of the machine coolant

Coolant is a fluid which flows through a device to prevent its overheating, transferring the heat produced by the device to other devices that use or dissipate it. Forklifter also known as industrial track operator, a forklift operator mains duty is to properly and safely guide the machinerys forks underneath a heavy load of supplies, lift them with the line hydraulic system and take them to where they need to go.

Landfill 1. method of solid waste disposal in which refuse is buried between layers of dirt so as to fill in or reclaim low-lying ground. 2. A site used for a reclaimed by such disposal. 3. Environmentally acceptable disposal of waste on the ground. EPA ( Environment Protection Agency ) an independent federal agency established to coordinate programs aimed at reducing pollution and protecting the environment.

methods

Man -The supervisor (Max Morrison) wanted to dump the

machine coolant to the drain without thinking its possible effects.

Material -Pouring out the machine coolant into the drain,

could harm the environment.

Methods -The forklifter (Bryan Springer) knew the possible

effects of dumping the machine coolant into the drain but he didnt know the right way to do it.

Max Morrison (Supervisor) common sense is my law

Abide

the law

Try to figure out whether the machine coolant is hazardous or not. Put the machine coolant into a spill proof container then bring it to Environment protection Agency (EPA) to check if its hazardous or not. Bring it to the landfills have holding tanks for anti-freeze storage. They will take your coolants and will recycle it for you.

The recommendation is the main conclusion. Therefore, the group decided to choose the third Alternative Solution; to bring the machine coolant to the landfill because it is the easiest/fastest and safest way to dump it without violating the law.
