The author believes that instrumental musicisa vital forcein shaping the lives and character of young people and is one of the most POSITIVE forces present in the school curriculum. However Considering the many demands placed upon the student forhis or hertime and ability, the desire to stay with instrumental music is challenged over and over again. Since rewards and incentives are so much a part of our very being, it follows that they can and. should be included, when properly used, in any successful band program, With this in mind we strongly urge you to adopt the follawing program of rewards and incentives as part of your band curriculum: CLASS PROGRESS CHART: This chart should be displayed in the classroom so that every student may review his or her progress as they play through each book of the MEDALIST BAND METHOD. After successtully completing each page the instructor can aifix a sticker in the shape of the medal. Those students, ¢ who may be lagging behind will have the incentive to catch up with the class, and extra practice will be encouraged. Charts and stickers are available from CPP/Belwin through your music dealer. CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT: Thishandsome certificate indicates successful completion of e«ch part of the MEDALIST BAND METHOD and can be proudly displayed by the student, They are printed in BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD depicting the level of achievement. These may also be ordered from your music dealer MEDAL (with neck drape): Perhaps the most cherished reward is the Olympic-style MEDAL which can be earned alter successfully completing each book in the MEDALIST BAND METHOD. These handsome medals rellect a high level of achievement for the young band student and will be worn with immense pride. The medals are provided at an absolute minimum cost and may be purchased from your music dealer. We frmiy believe thatihe adopsion ofthis plan ofreward and incentives when combinedwith the exciting MEDALIST BAND COURSE, will create a solid foundation upon which to build a @ superior bund curriculum and a winning performance group. Good luck and GO FOR THE BRONZE! GO FOR THE SILVER! GO FOR THE GOLD! A complete listing of the MEDALIST BAND COURSE, Part Two appears on the last page of this Conducter’s Score The author has attempted to keep the number of TEACHING SUGGESTIONS to a minimum, and has included only those that have proven to be highly successful in the classtoom. Problems pertinent toa particular instrument have been noted just ahead of the exercise NEW NOTES! ¢ The symbol of the TORCH alerts the student to NEW NOTES as they appear IMPORTANT: Since the student should now be adept at interpreting FINGERING CHARTS, new fingerings will be foundonly in the STUDENT'S BOOK. An INTERMEDIATE FINGERING CHART is found on page 32 of each student’s book SOMETHING NEW! € The symbol of the TORCH alerts the student to NEW MATERIAL and NEW INFORMA TION as it appears throughout the book SOMETHING EXTRA!
