A emulação a serviço da luta de ideias- uma interpretação da poética lucreciana;

Resumo: Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a poética lucreciana, revelada nalgumas
passagens do poema “De rerum natura/Sobre a natureza das coisas”, sob a perspectiva
dos conceitos, caros à retórica antiga, de imitatio e aemulatio, que preconizavam a
importância, para a criação poética, da imitação de modelos estabelecidos pela tradição,
com o fito de alcançar a superação desses modelos por meio da tensão resultante do ato
de imitar e o desejo de rivalizar com quem se imita. Nesse sentido, buscaremos
estabelecer uma relação entre essa prática artística muito difundida entre os escritores da
antiguidade e a poética defendida por Lucrécio em seu poema, dando atenção ao fato de
que para esse poeta romano a superação da tradição literária precedente, por meio da
prática emulativa, era também uma forma de exercer livremente a luta de ideias,
relevante para a realização do seu projeto didático de propagação da doutrina epicurista,
que tão fragorosamente se opunha à poesia tradicional no que se refere ao seu pendor
mitologizante, assim como a determinadas correntes filosóficas rivais.

Emulation at the service of the struggle of ideas- an interpretation of Lucretian poetics.

This work aims to analyze the Lucretian poetics, revealed in some passages of the poem

"De rerum natura / On the nature of things", from the perspective of concepts, dear to

the ancient rhetoric, of imitatio and aemulatio, which advocated the importance, for the

poetic creation, the imitation of models established by tradition, with the aim of

overcoming of these models through the tension resulting from the act of imitating and

the desire to rival the models. In this sense, we will seek to establish a relationship

between this widespread artistic practice among the writers of antiquity and the poetics

defended by Lucretius in his poem, paying attention to the fact that for this Roman poet

the overcoming of the preceding literary tradition, through emulative practice, was also

a way of freely exercising the struggle of ideas, relevant to the realization of his didactic

project of spreading the Epicurean doctrine, which so strongly opposed traditional

poetry with regard to its mythological character, as well as certain rival philosophical

currents.
