Seinfeld destacou-se dentre os muitos sitcoms familiares e de amigos de sua época.
Nenhum dos personagens principais eram parentes, mas permaneceram amigos

Seinfeld stood out among the many family and friend sitcoms of his day. None of
the main characters were related, but they remained close friends throughout the
seasons. Episodes from many sitcoms, such as Family Ties and Full House, were
centered on a single theme or narrow comic situations, while most Seinfeld
episodes focused on everyday incidents such as standing in a movie line, going out

was the fact that the main characters never learned moral lessons. Indeed, they
were indifferent to the outside world and insensitive to strangers and relatives, and
even at times to each other; a mantra followed by the show's producers was: "no
hugs, no learning." There were also few happy endings, except when these were

confident, albeit superficial. She tends to be too honest with people, which often
gets her into trouble. She has a habit of getting into trouble with her boyfriends'
habits, the bizarre demands of her bosses, and the rudeness of strangers. A
recurring theme for Elaine is her frustration in her search for the ideal man. She is
the only woman able to get along with the other three protagonists.[12]
Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards) — Jerry's "crazy" neighbor. Among his hallmarks
are his straightforward humor, flashy hairstyle, old-fashioned clothes and his
frantic scurrying through the door of Seinfeld's apartment. He sometimes acts in a
naive, almost childlike way, even though he randomly demonstrates an
extraordinary knowledge of human behavior. Although he never stays in a steady
job, he often comes up with fancy plans to earn money, which usually work at first

Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards) – Kramer is Jerry's slacker neighbor. His
trademarks include his humorous upright pompadour hairstyle, vintage clothes,
and energetic sliding bursts through Jerry's apartment door. Kramer was heavily
based on a neighbor of David's during his amateur comedic years in Manhattan. At
times, he appears naïve, uneducated, and impulsive, and at other times, quick-
witted, helpful, and empathetic; similarly, he is exaggeratedly successful, socially,
with his charisma and laid-back personality. This is seen in his success with women
and employers. He has been described as a "hipster doofus." Although he never
holds a steady job, he is rarely short of money and often invents wacky schemes
that often work at first then eventually fail. Kramer is best friends with Newman,
and they work well together despite their differences.[14]
George Costanza (Jason Alexander) – George is Jerry's best friend since high
school. He is stingy, conniving, pedantic and jealous of others' achievements.[15]
