Voc j deve ter notado que a lngua inglesa est presente em sua vida de vrias formas: em
anncios e slogans publicitrios, na internet, em dizeres impressos em peas de vesturio, em notcias sobre esportes, em games. Agora, voc vai estar em contato com esse idioma formalmente em
suas aulas, para aprofundar e sistematizar seus conhecimentos. Competncias desenvolvidas no
estudo de outras disciplinas, bem como qualquer conhecimento prvio que voc tenha sobre vrios
assuntos, sero de grande valia para o aprendizado de ingls e para a realizao das atividades
propostas.
Este Caderno do Aluno traz sees que vo ajud-lo a: organizar o contedo visto em sala de
aula; aprender a usar um dicionrio bilngue; fazer sua autoavaliao, de acordo com as metas
apresentadas; registrar as palavras e expresses novas de forma a facilitar futuras consultas. Voc
tambm ir desenvolver a habilidade de buscar as informaes de que precisa em um texto sem a
necessidade de entender todas as palavras.
Por meio de suas aulas de ingls, voc aprender um pouco sobre a cultura de outros povos e
vai perceber que diferentes pases tm diferentes costumes, sem que isso signifique que algumas
culturas sejam superiores ou inferiores a outras.
O ingls o idioma mais usado na internet, nas telecomunicaes em geral e no mundo do trabalho. O Caderno traz dicas importantes sobre o uso da internet como ferramenta de pesquisa e
comunicao: voc pode us-lo em seus estudos do ingls, para estar em contato com pessoas do
mundo inteiro e tambm para buscar informaes sobre outras matrias do seu currculo.
LEARNING TARGETS
Neste Caderno, voc far atividades relacionadas a dois temas: 1) First contacts e 2)
Foreign languages around us. Essas atividades vo ajud-lo a:
1. Identicar nveis de formalidade em pequenos dilogos com cumprimentos em ingls.
2. Comparar nveis de formalidade em cumprimentos em ingls e em portugus.
3. Escolher entre cumprimentos mais formais ou mais informais, de acordo com o interlocutor.
4. Reconhecer e usar nmeros de 0 a 1 000.

PRODUCING A POSTER
1. Read the following steps with the help of your teacher to produce a poster with the title: Foreign
words around us.
a) Get in groups of 4 or 5 students. Each group is going to search for foreign words in dierent
areas, for example: Cleaning products Outfit Ads Signs Internet and electronic equipment
Hygiene and make-up products Food and drinks.
b) With your teacher, agree on a date for all the members of the group to bring the results of
their research to class. If possible, bring some of the materials you used in your research,
such as product packages, t-shirts, magazines, etc.
c) Write down the results of your research in the table below.

Using a bilingual dictionary
Aqui voc vai aprender um pouco mais sobre como usar o dicionrio para estudar ingls.
Material necessrio: vamos precisar de um dicionrio bilngue (ingls-portugus-ingls). Obs.: Se voc no tiver um dicionrio, use o da biblioteca da sua escola ou pea um
emprestado a um colega ou parente.
Os dicionrios bilngues so divididos em duas metades. Uma delas tem palavras em
ingls acompanhadas de sua traduo ou da explicao do que significam em portugus.
Vamos chamar essa parte do dicionrio de ingls-portugus. Na outra metade, acontece
o contrrio: temos palavras em portugus e a forma como podemos escrev-las (ou
diz-las) em ingls. Vamos chamar essa parte de portugus-ingls.
3. Se procurar o verbete apple no dicionrio, voc vai encontr-lo bem no incio da parte
ingls-portugus, pois a palavra comea com a letra A. Que letras voc encontra mais ou
menos na metade da seo ingls-portugus? E que letras esto mais no nal?

4. Coloque as palavras a seguir em ordem alfabtica: pie, watermelon, yogurt, potato, wheat,
mango, breakfast, ketchup, cucumber, cake, bread, pineapple.
5. Quais das palavras da questo anterior estaro mais no comeo da parte ingls-portugus do seu dicionrio? Quais estaro na metade? E quais estaro no nal? Responda
sem consultar o dicionrio!
7. Veja estas palavras em portugus: alto, atrair, a, alumnio, altura, aula, adjetivo, ainda,
altar, ajuda. Coloque-as em ordem alfabtica e depois procure a palavra correspondente
em ingls na parte portugus-ingls do seu dicionrio.
