When I speak about poetic for the translation and not about
traductology1 which means science of translation I do it
for three reasons, which relate among themselves.
The first reason is that poetic implies literature, therefore
preventing this major vice of the contemporary linguistic
theories which is the act of working on the language
dissociating it from literature, that is, compartmentalizing it
from where comes the dogmatic and regional descriptivist
empiricisms without any language theory. On the contrary,
poetic develops itself only in procedure of discovering if it is
articulated with the theory of literature and the theory of
language. If it becomes the theory of language. Here, poetic
plays, in translation, a very important role as experimental
poetic. Therefore, poetic is no more than a homonym from what
post-structuralism designates with this same name in its
description of the narrative structures. Thus, it plays a role and a
critical effect, i.e., of acknowledgement of strategies and of
strategy even against the maintenance of the order constituted
by the phenomenological and semiotic dogmatisms, those
makers of ignorance for the internal circulation only.
The second reason is that poetic, by including the
translation within the theory of literature, not only allows to
distinguish clearly the philological problems (the knowledge of
a language) from the properly poetic problems, which are
supposed to be the previous poetic studies of a text, but
above all, it allows to situate the translation within a theory
which merges the individual and the social, which it is
supposed to be the literature and puts it in action. This is the
reason why poetic studies literary works, becoming a poetic of
the subject, a poetic of the society (solidarity of the poem, of
the ethics and of history). Poetic of translation makes then
the study of the translating, within its history, as an exercise
of the alterity and acknowledges that identity does not appear

This word and its synonym translatology were introduced in the 1970s as translations of the French
traductologie, but they did not catch on in English, where the generally accepted term is translation
studies. Translatology usually occurs today in texts by non-native writers of English. (Retrieved from
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/traductology) T. N.
To deviate from poetic leads inevitably to the hermeneutics and to Heidegger, as we can clearly see in
BERMAN, Antoine. Pour une critique ds traductions: John Donne, Gallimard, 1995, p. 14-15. A fragile
and undermining position. This one of scrambled ideas. Still a test for a contemporary acritic position.
The need of poetic cannot be ignored without punishment.

texto. Traduzir assim no mais difcil, mas diferente. A
traduo tambm ser diferente. E se ela no confunde
retrica e potica, mtrica e ritmo, sentido e significncia
A potica do traduzir o caminho desta literariedade. O
trabalho em curso de uma potica da sociedade.
