1, Introduction
Lass of toughness in coarse grain HAZ is one of
‘the most important problems in welding of high
strength stecls. Especially, loss of toughness is scvere
in ease of large heat input welding. ‘Therefore,
various hinds of steck for large heat input welding
have been developed",
Tt is said that the main factors of this loss of tough
ness are a coarsening of the structure and the formed
structure itself. Austenite grain near the fasion line
is very coarse, but the effect of heat input on grain
site near the fusion line is not so large that it eannot
‘account for severe loss of toughness in large heat i
welding! However, the effective grain size may
yarp when the transformed structure varies, even if
austenite grain size is identical,
On the other hand, micros

Microstructure was observed by scanning electron,
microscope (SEM} and transmission electron mi-
