INTRODUCTION AMP ENGINEERING EDUCATION PROGRAM INTRODUCTION a WELCOME TO THE PROGRAM You are about to begin the self-study version of Fundamentals of Connector Design. This popular program, which has traditionally been offered in an instructor-led format, is now also available in this format for the following reasons: © You can complete the program at a location convenient to you. You can learn from the materials at times convenient to your personal schedule. You can lear at a pace that is comfortable for you. e You can easily review any material This Study Guide is the key to your successful completion of the program. Please take the time necessary to thoroughly read and understand this introductory section before beginning. It will offer you an explanation of the components that make up this self-study program. From this section you will also learn the recommended step-by-step procedure in completing the program PROGRAM COMPONENTS This complete program is based around a Student Manual, 12 Corresponding videotapes and this Study Guide. - @ Student Manual - The Student Manual, whichis yours to keep, will serve asthe base for program information. Itis divided into 12 sections which are identified in the table of contents and tabbed accordingly © Videotapes - For each of the 12 sections of the Student Manual there is a corresponding videotape. These videotapes will serve to clarify and to reinforce the information in the text of the Student Manual. The videotapes are the property of your Regional Training and Competency Center or Global Human Resource Development and must be returned when you complete the program. © Study Guide - This Study Guide, like the Student Manual, is yours to keep. Youwill find sections in this Study Guide that correspond to the 12 sections that make up the Student Manual. For each of the 12 sections, this Study Guide will provide the following - Self-Check Review Questions - Self-Check Review Question Answers Also, on page 3 of this Study Guide, you will find a Program Planning Guide which can be used to document your anticipated schedule for completing the program. eee EF100 FUNDAMENTALS OF CONNECTOR DESIGN 1 AMP ENGINEERING EDUCATION PROGRAM INTRODUCTION © RECOMMENDED SELF-STUDY PROCEDURE To help you get the most out of your learning experience with this Program, we recommend that you consider the following procedure in completing this self-study program. Step 1: Arrange a course initiation meeting with your supervisor/manager to discuss what your goals are in completing the program. In this meeting you may also want to establish a schedule for completing the sections that make up the program. It is recommended that the schedule enables you to complete the sections in order since the program was designed logically. Step 2° Read the Section 1 Learning Objectives, located on the Section 1 title page in the Student Manual. By understanding the learning objectives, you will be able to focus on what you should be able to do as a result of completing the reading of Section 1 Step 3: Read Section 1 in the Student Manual, Step 4: View the videotape that corresponds to Section 1 in the Student Manual. The different approach taken in the videotape should help to clarify and reinforce major points. Many of the graphics that are shown in the video are also located in the Student Manual Step 5: Complete the Self-Check Review Questions for Section 1 that are located after the Review Questions in this Study Guide. Answers to the Review Questions are provided in the back of the Study Guide. It is important to note that, in some cases, more than one answer is possible, The process of arriving at an answer, consideration of the options and tradeoffs, is as important as the final decision for some of the questions. By completing these Review Questions you should be able to analyze if you need to review the material for a clearer understanding before moving on Repeat Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 for each of the Sections 2 through 12 in the Student Manual. ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS Periodically, as you progress through this program, arrange review meetings with your supervisor to discuss how you are doing. Discuss what is going well and anything that is an obstacle tothe learning process. Try to work with your supervisor to make the process meet your personal needs. Set a pace in scheduling your studies that is comfortable and continuous. Consider the lists of Supplemental Reference Materials at the ends of the sections inthe Student Manual as additional sources of information to enhance your understanding of the topics. Based on previous experience in presenting thisinformation, itis recommended that you plan to complete the course in a six-week time frame. Due to the technical nature of the course, itis felt that this is the optimum pace for assimilating the material.
