IN: em, no(s), na(s).

Indica:
1- dentro de (tridimensional) Ex: in the classroom.
2- em uma área (bairro, cidade, país, etc) Ex: in Rio de Janeiro.
3- tempo Ex: in 1995, in June, in the winter, in the morning, in the afternoon, in the
evening, in the night (durante). Atenção: at night!!!
4- com meios de transporte Ex: in a taxi, in a car.

ON: em, no(s), na(s), sobre.

Indica:
1- em contato com a superfície. Ex: on the table.
2- numa área que lembre a forma de uma linha (praia, costa, rua). Ex: on the beach, on
Paulista Avenue, on an island, on a farm.
3- relacionado a coisas que podem ser ligadas e desligadas. Ex: on the radio, on TV,
on the computer, on the phone, on the movies.
4- Com dias da semana, datas ou expressões que envolvam dias Ex: on Monday, on
January 22nd, on Easter Day, on Christimas Day.Atenção: at Christimas, at Easter!!!
5- Com meios de transporte Ex: on the plane, boat, subway, bus, bicycle.

AT: em, no(s), na(s).

Indica:
1- num determinado ponto de uma área. Ex: at the door
2- at (em) acompanhado de números em endereços. Ex: I live at 102 Paulista Avenue.
3- numa área dentro de outra maior. Ex: Theresa works at the hospital in Campinas.

1- até, antes de, não mais tarde. Ex: by 1997 he will return
2- por, pelo (agente da passiva). Ex: The book was written by Shakespeare.
3- de (meios de transporte). Ex: by bus, táxi, plane, etc. Atenção: on foot, on
horseback.

FROM:
Indica:
1- procedência, origem. Ex: He comes from Germany.
2- ponto de partida. Ex: He drives from São Paulo to Rio in 2 hours.
FOR:
Indica:
1- por, durante (tempo). Ex: They’ve lived here for 3 years.
2- destino final com verbos de movimento. Ex: The train leaves for Paris in 2 hours.
3- finalidade ou intenção. Ex: Do it for me.

PREPOSIÇÕES DE TEMPO

ABOUT: aproximadamente. Ex: He has about 10 cars.

BEFORE x AFTER: antes x depois. Ex: Study before the test, not after!
BETWEEN: entre dois. Ex: Between Mary and John
AMONG: entre vários. Ex: Among my friends
DURING: durante, ao longo de. Ex: During the week I don’t go out.
TILL (UNTIL): até Ex: I’ll have English classes till Friday.
SINCE: desde; ponto de partida no tempo. Ex: I’ve worked there since 1990

PREPOSIÇÕES QUE INDICAM LUGAR E POSIÇÃO

IN FRONT OF: defronte de. Ex: I’m in front of the church.

NEAR: perto de. Ex: You are near my house.
FAR FROM: longe de. Ex: They are far from school.
ABOVE: acima de. Ex: The temperature is above zero.
BELOW: abaixo. Ex: The temperature is below zero.
OVER: por sobre, acima de. Ex: The plain is over the mountain.
UNDER: sob, debaixo de. Ex: The book is under the table.
INSIDE: dentro de. Ex: My mother is inside the house.
OUTSIDE: fora de. Ex: My mother is outside the house.
BESIDE: ao lado de. Ex: I’m beside the church.

TO: para. Ex: She always goes to Santos.

INTO: para dentro de. Ex: She goes into the house.
TOWARD: em direção a. Ex: He goes toward the hospital.
OUT OF: para fora de. Ex: They go out of the car.
OFF: para for a de uma superfície. Ex: Take your hand off my bag!
FROM: procedência, origem. Ex: She comes from England.
UP: para cima. Ex: She goes up the stairs.
DOWN: para baixo. Ex: She goes down the stairs.
ACROSS: através, do outro lado de. Ex: They live across the street.
THROUGH: através de, por, pelo. Ex: They go through the Forest.
