RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Most of the dyes cause changes to the environment, and one of these dyes is
methylene blue, widely used in textile industries in the production of paper and other
materials as polyesters and nylons. The heterogeneous photocatalysis using tiânio
dioxide (TiO2) is increasingly used for effluent treatment in the chemical industry and
one of these treatments is for remove color. Therefore, the focus of this study was to
examine concentration removal of the methylene blue dye by heterogeneous
photocatalysis using two different sources of artificial ultraviolet light and titanium
dioxide as catalyst in different concentrations. Two reactors were used in the
experiments, the first one with a black light lamp, and the second with mercury-vapor
lamp. In these reactors were tested different concentrations of TiO2 put suspensed in
the methylene blue solution. For data analysis, two mathematical models were used
to determine the reactions rates of each experiment, the Ordinary Differential
Equation first nonhomogeneous order and pseudo first order, being used the first one
in stabilized reactions and the second for not stabilized reactions. Thus, it was found
that the catalyst concentration influences the reaction rate. The mercury vapor lamp
obtained the higher efficiency compared to the black light lamp, and in the two
reactors was noted a greater efficiency for 1.0 gL-1 TiO2 concentration.
