A ORGANIZAÇÃO DA PRODUÇÃO
CERÂMICA DOS ASURINI DO XINGU: UMA
REFLEXÃO ETNOARQUEOLÓGICA SOBRE
VARIABILIDADE E PADRONIZAÇÃO
ARTEFATUAL
This article presents some of the results of our ethnoarchaeological research on ceramic
technology conducted among the Asurini do Xingu, an Amazonian Tupi indigenous
population from the Xingu River, Pará, Brazil. The data demonstrate the relationship
between the social organization of ceramic production and standardization/formal
and quantitative variability of these artifacts over time. It is intended to show that
in the Asurini context the structure of teaching and learning, social identity, ability
and creativity of the ceramist as well as the intensity and scale of vessel production
are aspects that directly influence the formal and quantitative variability of ceramic
assemblages in synchronic and diachronic terms.

Figura 12. Dendrograma da vasilha japepa´i (2006).
dendrograma.
