Abstract: With the global focus on developing means to replace current fossil
fuels, this work demonstrates a procedure that can be used in the future for the
use of hydrogen gas as fuel. During the work, the initial idea was to contemplate
the history of the emergence of hydrogen, showing a brief description of the most
important years, since its emergence, which was by chance, until his certainty,
years later. Accordingly, the construction of a fuel cell to demonstrate, in a labo-
ratory, the explosive power of hydrogen and, if possible, the attachment of this
system to a combustion engine were proposed. The operation of the hydrogen ge-
neration in a fuel cell was explained by the use of an external energy (automotive
battery) generating the electrolysis of water and, consequently, the separation
of the elements that constitute it. During the experiment, it was found that, with
only one liter of water with caustic soda, to accelerate the process of electrolysis,
the system generated a large amount of hydrogen. Because it is a highly flamma-
ble chemical element, it was decided to hold only one explosion on a small scale
to the income statement. The conclusion reached by the experiments was that,
with the same equipment, if there was the possibility of using a conventional
internal combustion engine, there would be the possibility to achieve a reduction
in fuel consumption, since the strength of the hydrogen combustion would be
enough to decrease the fuel injected into the combustion chamber.

Materiais necessários
Montagem
No furo superior, o gás hidrogênio
