Na literatura em língua inglesa, Third language acquisition (TLA) é utilizado como um termo
abrangente para designar o processo de aprendizagem e/ou aquisição de uma terceira língua. Porém, neste
artigo, adota-se a nomenclatura aprendizagem de terceira língua, para se referir ao contexto formal de
aprendizagem da sala de aula (GASS; SELINKER, 2008).
