There is nothing more fascinating than the sparkling eyes of Heaven in the dark stretch of the night. Ancient Chinese believed that there was a one-to- one correspondence between the people on Barth and the stars in Heaven, Many lovely folkloric stories narrate the inter-twining relationship between gods and humans. The oldest system of using stars to read the life of a human being in China was founded in about the Qin Dynasty 32%). It was known as the Five-Star Astrology HAL (Wu Xing Shu). The approach is quite similar to Wester Astrology. It is mostly statistical based. It was found to be inaccurate and two different systems were developed later to replace the Five-Star Astrology. There are still people trying to unearth the Five-Star Astrology from time to time. Feng Shui Master Wu Shi Qing was one of the more well known Five-Star astrologers in this century, However, his work is superficial compared to Western Astrology. ‘There were two different lines of thought, Both schools believe that itis the Qi present at the moment of birth that determines the life of a person. The Four Pillars of Destiny revolutionized by Xu Zi Ping #T75 describes Qi 4. in terms of five phases Fif# (Wu Xing). A mans four pillars are thought to be the basic structure of his life. The four pillars are simply the Qi that prevails at the moment of birth of the petson, It is given by the ‘Stems and Branches of the year, month, day and hour of birth. ‘The other school of life reading is called Zi Wei Dou Shu. <> is a constellation of stars in the sky. <> is another way of saying stars. <> means Divination Numbers. Chinese philosophy advocates that every happening corresponds to a number. If we can find the number by calculation, we will have our lives controlled in our hands. ‘The whole name indicates a way to use the stars headed by Zi Wel to find the Divination Number. The founder of Zi Wei Dou Shu is not known, Itis believed that the Daoist Master Chen Xi Yi |THE Early Song Dynasty) was responsible for its existence, However, it is quite doubiful, There is only one book about this system. It is supposed to be written by Chen Xi Yi. The book is called <> C9} 8225, the Comprehensive Handbook of Zi Wei Dou Shu. Copyright © Josep Yu 1999, 2005, 2 Zi Wei Dou Shu Comespondence Course Part 1: Potting the Star Chart There is also a story of a five-star astrologer lost in the woods for three days. After his reappearance, people were amazed at the accuracy of his reading using a new method, People believed he met some gods in the woods who taught him how to do an accurate life reading. If this story is true at all, I would believe that he was abducted by extraterrestrial visitors. These more advanced beings then transferred a system based on ‘what were familiar to the recipient: the Lunar Calendar, the personification of stars, and a life chart similar to that used in Five-Star astrology. At that time, Five-Star astrology has already undergone many stages of improvements. In the beginning the five stars used were the planets: Venus 2H! (Metal), Mercury 7! (Water), Jupiter 452 (Wood), Mars ‘X42 (Pite) and Satur +5! (Earth). The Sun and the Moon were added to make up the 7 major stars. Later the 4 remnants were also added, It is speculative to consider these four remnants as the planets Neptune, Uranus, Pluto and a Comet. As this astrology developed, more and more stars were used. Finally, this developed into the <<18 Flying Stars>>. In 18 Flying Stars, the planets are not used anymore. It started with the major star Zi Wei accompanied by 18 Flying Stars: 4. Tian Xu Rise 10.Tian Fu X18 2. Tian Gui Ki 11.Tian Lu eRe 3. Tian Yin AED 12.Tian Zhang A#E 4. Tian Shou a 13. Tian Yi Re 5. Tian Kong X%% 14.Mao Tou — fei 6. Hong Luan 4/18 15.TianRen = 2) 7. The method of charting is entirely different. The palaces used are the same as in Five Star Astrology Health Marriage [Servants | Children Travel Properties Career Brothers Happiness | Appearance _[ Life Wealth Fig. 13 This probably was developed before Buddhism was introduced into China as the stars bear the Chinese names. When Zi Wei Dou Shu emerged, the seven stars of the Bei Dou ‘were changed to bear the names imported from India, Copyright © Josep Yu 1999, 2005, a Zi Wei Dou Shu Comespondence Course Pact 1: Plotting the Star Chart Lesson 01-2 Real Stars and Virtual Stars Some astrologers believe that the stars we use in Zi Wei Dou Shu are the real stars in the Universe, Some others believe that they are simply special energies that exist in the Universe. Since the number of stars in the Universe is unlimited while the stars we use in Zi Wei Dou Shu are from 26 to 157 in different schools, I believe that the stars we use are only virtual stars. They may be real packets of energics, but not necessarily the stars in the strictest sense. The fact that we actually personify the stars we use necessitates them to be virtual stars. ‘They are considered humanly in nature. They then affect the human mind, human action and reaction, moral standards, happiness and sadness, good and cvil. The theory is then quite interesting, At the moment of birth, the stars enter the human body and become the implanted nature of the person. The mechanism is complicated These stars will affect different aspects of life in different ways at different times. The stars themselves combine and react in different ways. This matches reality. How do you resemble your parents in character, likes and dislikes, achievement and the way of life? Very litle, because it is unlikely you have a chart similar to that of your father or mother, We do not inherit our character, nature and personality from our parents. The stars are responsible for all this. OF course, we are talking about virtual stars. It is also quite interesting to note that the names of the stars are not the Chinese names used in the 18 Flying Stars. Some of them are the names borrowed from Buddhist Classies. These names were very popular to the Chinese with the introduction of Buddhism into China, They were used extensively in most schools of Feng Shui. It is, another loose proof of the extraterrestrial visitor hypothesis. The space travelers were considerate enough to employ the fashionable names in order not to create problems for the lucky astrologer they encountered, Anyway, the stars are still classified into Stars of the Northern Sky, Stars of the Central Sky and Stars of the Southern Sky. However, even those who advocate that the stars are real stars cannot define a one-to-one correspondence between the stars we see in the sky and those used in Zi Wei Dou Shu. Copyright © Josep Yu 1999, 2005 a Zi Wei Dou Shu Comespondence Course Pact 1: Plotting the Star Chart Lesson 01-3 The Twelve Palaces In the beginning, a Zi Wei chart was in the form of a circle. Later, it was found to be inconvenient and unnecessary. A square ot a rectangle is drawn in place of the circle, Friends me Health ye oe hildren, Properties Marriage Happiness | Parents Life | Brothers The twelve palaces describe twelve areas of a person's life. The relative positions of the palaces are important. This has to be committed to memory in order to make an efficient analysis, Take any palace into consideration. The two adjacent palaces will affect the palace under examination in two ways: to give it pressure, and to give it assistance. Take any palace into consideration. The diametrically opposite palace has a direct impact on that palace. If you count in the clockwise or anti-clockwise direction up to 4, you will arrive at palaces that effectively affect the palace under examination. If you count 4 clockwise from the Life Palace, you arrive at the Career Palace. If you count 4 anti-clockwise, you arrive at the Wealth Palace. Do you agree that your eareer achievement and your wealth are important to you? These are related palaces, Copyright © Josep Yu 1999, 2005, 5. Zi Wei Dou Shu Comespondence Course Pact 1: Plotting the Star Chart Lesson 01-4 The Body Palace # & ‘The Body Palace is not one of the twelve palaces. It dwells upon one of the following palaces: Life Palace, Marriage Palace, Wealth Palace, Travel Palace, Career Palace, Happiness Palace, The Body Palace cannot dwell upon the other six palaces. The Body Palace can be considered a palace in another dimension. Most Chinese people believe in reincarnation. [ am of the opinion that the soul of a living being does not die after the body dies, The energy has to undergo another life and another life with no ends. In cach life, wisdom is gained. Some gain more and others gain less, Some souls may deteriorate. It all depends on how a life is lived. Therefore, the soul of a living person is affected by the way the previous lives are lived. The stars in the Body Palace probably reflect this, The location of the Body Palace also has some significance. ‘+ Body Palace in Life Palace ~ The person considers life most important. He loves his body and his good name, This is especially true when the stars are good stars. IF the stars are bad, then it adds selfishness to the character of the person. © Body Palace in Matriage Palace - The person considers fa most important. He loves his wife and he can sacrifice for her. It does not necessarily mean that he is a faithful husband. It depends on the stars. ‘* Body Palace in Wealth Palace — The person considers wealth most important. To make money is the only thing that is in his mind, Whether he will use proper or unethical means to make money will depend on the stats, ‘+ Body Palace in Travel Palace ~ The person considers relationship with other people ‘most important. Whether he is the center of a group of capable people or whether he is in bad company depends on the stars. ‘+ Body Palace in Career Palace ~ The person considers his career most important. He is 100% an organization man. If the stars are bad, it will affect his marriage. ‘* Body Palace in Happiness Palace ~ The person considers happiness most important. If the stars are good, he will be involved in good deed to gain happiness. If the stars are bad, he will be deriving pleasure from bad habits Copyright © Josep Yu 1999, 2005 6 Zi Wei Dou Shu Comespondence Course Pact 1: Plotting the Star Chart Zi Wei Dou Shu Correspondence Course By Joseph Yu Part 1 Lesson 02 The Lunar Calendar The Lunar Calendar Conyersion from Western Calendar The Additional Month The Rat Hour and Local Time All rights reserved. We only use the birth year, month, day and hour for our discussion, TRAE Faia “LE ‘There are twelve Jie in a solar year. A Lunar month is either 29 days or 30 days. A lunar year has an average of 354 Gays. It is 11 days shorter than a solar year. Therefore, in about 3-year’s time, an additional month is implemented. It is still 3 days short. On the average, there are 7 years with 132 months in every 19 years. The additional month is called the Run Nian [!*/ while the additional month the Run Yue F311 An additional month is the month that does not inelude one of the twelve Qi of the year. For example, 1998 was a Run Nian. Jun 24 was the first day of a lunar month while July 22 was the last day of the same month, Summer Solstice 3228 was on Jun 21. Greater Heat 3 was on Jul 23, The additional month was taken as the Additional Fifth Month, Run Wu Yue FF We use the numbers 1 to 12 to name the lunar months. The additional month becomes a headache. There are three ways to deal with this problem, none of which is satisfactory Method 1 Regard sn additional month the same as the previous month, For example, if the additional month is the additional 5" month, then regard it as the 5" month, In other words, there are two 5" months. Method 2 Regard an additional month the same as the next month. For example, if the additional month is the additional 5" month, then regard it as the 6" month. In other words, there are two 6" months. Method 3 Regard the first 15 days of the additional month as the previous month and the second half of the month as the following month. For example, Days 1 to 15 of the additional 5" month are regarded as in the 5" month while the other days are regarded as in the 6" month. I find that Method 2 works better for my case studies. In other words, 11 p.m. is the end of a day and the beginning of the next day. Since the stem and branch of a day are not involved in the calculation, the formulas should only suit ‘what was customary during the time when Zi Wei Dou Shu first appeared. This is totally unfounded. In the old days, people used the sundial to read time during the day. The time was interpolated for the night and an instrument using the dripping of water into a graduated cylinder was used. China covers several time zones. Astrologers in ancient times had no idea of time conversion. They referred to the Sun to read time, This is ample proof that the new invention is invalid Adjustment to the true local time using 1° = 4 minutes is necessary. Adjustment to read the standard time from the artificial Daylight Savings Time is also necessary.
