Os adjetivos comparativos irregulares, entretanto, não usam a forma raiz.

good > better than                                              bom > melhor que

bad > worse than ruim > pior que
far > farther than longe > mais longe que
little > less than pouco > menos que
much > more than muito > mais do que
The tablet is better than the desktop. O tablet é melhor do que o computador de mesa
My new smartphone cost more than a computer.  Meu novo smartphone custa mais do que um computador.

Também há alguns adjetivos de duas sílabas que podem seguir a regra para adjetivos longos e curtos.
