Úlceras de Pressão

Como PREVENIR estas feridas?
“Thou wouldst have deemed them awake, whilst they were asleep, and We turned
them on their right and on their left sides: their dog stretching forth his two fore-
legs on the threshold: if thouhadst looked at them, thou wouldst have certainly
turned back from them in flight, and wouldst certainly have been filled with terror of
them.”
18th Surah-Al Kahf, 18th verse.

Introdução: Úlceras de Pressão
Definição:
“A pressure ulcer is a localized injury to the skin
and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony
prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure
in combination with shear”.
“A number of contributing or
confounding factors are also
associated with pressure
ulcers; the significance of these
factors is yet to be elucidated”.

EPIDEMIOLOGIA vs CUSTOS

EPIDEMIOLOGIA
Principais objectivos:
44
EPIDEMIOLOGIA
Quanto Custa tratar uma Úlcera de Pressão
1,7 milhões de Doentes desenvolveram UP = 8,5 biliões de Dólares em C.
Saúde
570 milhões no tratamento
(Kuhn e Coulter, 1992; Van Risjwijk, 1993)
Em 1989, nos EUA = Custos UP – 2.000 e 70.000 $ = 1,3 a 1,5 biliões de Dólares ano
(Morison et al. 2004)

EPIDEMIOLOGIA
Source: Bennett, Dealey & Posnett, Age & Ageing, 33, 2004
46
47
Conclusões de estudos internacionais:
“ Os custos associados ao tratamento de feridas
crónicas são claramente superiores aos custos
indexados à sua prevenção”
