4. GENERAL LAYOUT
All the loading distribution presented and specified herein is based on the layout of the shipyard facility as
presented in Figure 1.
To allow a very comprehensive and straightforward description of the loading supposed to act on the floors
and quays due to the use of the facilities, the whole shipyard area was divided in a set of predefined subareas as illustrated in Figure 3, according to the production flow, which is presented in Figure 4 and
Figure 5 (for the Shipyard Facility) and in Figure 6 (for the Offshore Facility).
In Figure 3, the main areas of interest for the scope of this document are then characterized and pointed
out, for which the expected loading to be considered in their design shall be defined herein, along with their
corresponding nomenclature that each of them shall be referred to.
Therefore, the following sub-areas are to be considered for loading specification purposes See also

5. TYPES OF LOADS
In this section, we describe all the different types of loads that shall be considered in the structural
analyses as required for design phase of the infrastructure of the shipyard (floors, slabs, foundation),
according to the area distribution as presented in Item 4.
The live loads prone to occur during the operation of the shipyard facilities, whose definition is the aim
of this document, mainly result from:
The operation of the required equipment for the construction flow (loading/unloading of
materials, lifting operations, assembly phase, etc);
The proper construction of the vessel itself (on the dry dock).
In the following, each one of these loads resulting from typical operations of a shipyard will be unique
and precisely defined.
For a proper definition of load combinations and concurrent actions, one should consult Item 6.
It is not included in this document the loading due to berthing of ships in the quays.
5.1. DEAD LOAD
As dictated by the structural design, but it shall comply with the lay-out presented in Ref.[1] - Sheet 1.
5.2. LIVE LOAD
Basically, there are three types of variable loads, as described below:
Static and uniformly distributed loads (per area, over the ground/slabs/pavements);
Static and concentrated load sets, prone to act anywhere on a certain prescribed region;
Vehicular moving loads (a set of concentrated dynamic loads with a certain fixed arrangement,
running over a lane or track).
Uniformly distributed loads are specified to simulate either the action of material storage or a temporary
working loading acting on the ground.
Concentrated load sets are specified to simulate the storage of blocks (shipyard part) and modules
(offshore part), sets of blocks or even a whole pre-fabricated / pre-assembled part of the ship (i.e. heavy
parts over supports, acting at a certain specific and unknown location).
Moving dynamic loads are specified to simulate a traffic loading due to the action of all kind of material
transportation, such as hydraulic trailers, gantries or cranes.
ESPECIFICAO TCNICA
Projeto:
Ttulo:
Nr.:
Rev:
ET-0000-CIV-EEP-100
Pgina:
16 of 132
Note that, even though blocks storage does not exactly represent a traffic-load type, it does work as if it
were in practice (since the corresponding loading can be applied anywhere in a certain region). The
only difference is that in such case any favorable action must not be considered in the design of the
base over which it acts, since the load eventually may not occur (which is not the case of a pre-defined
traffic load).
It will also be defined herein the corresponding areas where each load may occur, according to the
general loading plan as presented in Figure 3.
For the description of the loading to be considered in the design phase or the Shipyard, the following
live loads are defined:

(120tf Mobile Crane) and the application of a special load under the block. It is important to note that in
these two figures, the distributed loads that appears in these cases is the one defined for area 3E, as an
example.
For concomitancy of arrangements A and B to D (see page 28) with the LIVE-LOAD Type 07 (distributed
loads), see additional remarks on Section 5.2.7

Description / Purpose:
To simulate the storage and/or an intermediate phase of the assembly process of the isolated parts of the
ship, when some already fabricated blocks are joined together to accomplish a step further in the assembly
sequence. These resulting parts are referred to as MEGA-BLOCKS. This whole set must be lifted up
afterwards to be finally joined to the partially erected vessel, inside the dry dock.

Additional Remarks:
The computation of these loads was based on real data, by choosing two representative cases, concerning
weight and dimensions. Also, the dead load distribution (per column) was also based on a proper
calculation. Therefore, these selected two cases are quite representative of the expecting loading to act on
these areas.
Since such loading is intend to simulate a set of modules stored at the offshore assembly area, the worst
set of loads must be considered, which preferably lead to the use of Module Type B, unless it does not fit
on the previewed area due to its geometry (so one must try to fit the smaller one, the Module Type A).
Yet, it must be considered the most unfavorable combination, as presented in Figure 27.

Additional Remarks:
When a block, a set of blocks, the Offshore Modules or the moving loading are acting, those prescribed
loads presented in Table 6 shall be used with some restrictions, as presented below.
Indeed, it must be considered a uniformly distributed load q (according to Table 6 , in tf/m) acting
simultaneously all around the static and moving load, but not on the projection of the application area of
the load itself.
In the case of a static load (loads 5.2.2 to 5.2.5), an example of the concomitancy of the distributed load
with the load itself is showed in Figure 44. The same principle of application shall be used for all types of
loads described for static loads.
In the case of moving loads (5.2.8 to 5.2.16), its basic dimensions shall be increased by 1.0 m in both
directions in plan, to give some allowance to any projecting part of the object to be transported See
Figure 45.

The Shipyard Transporters are responsible for the transport of any naval block according to the Hull
Production flow showed on Figure 4 page 12, as well as the Goliath Crane pieces and some other
equipment.
The maximum naval block weight estimate is 240 tf, so an appropriate sample was chosen, consistent to
the weight it will carry. Its geometry is illustrated in Figure 49.
The determination of the moving load to be considered for the action of Shipyard Transporters running over
the base structure was based on the following geometry, as presented inFigure 49.

The specified loading presented so far was specified to study the global behavior of the base structure. Of
course, the strength of the base due to the action of very high local loads must also be investigated.
In this regard, the geometric distribution based on the dimensions presented in Figure 52 shall be
considered.
Referring to the basic unit illustrated in Figure 49 and based on the criteria prescribed in Ref. [5], the magnitude

Loading arrangement:
This pressure was obtained by the simulation through the software LICCON, as showed in Appendix B,
page 125, carrying a 305tf load.
In this software, two pressure values are shown. The number in brackets represents the pressure on soft
soil and the other one represents the pressure on rigid soil. For this analysis, the value for soft soil was
adopted.
2
As can be seen there, the pressure under the crawler crane is 647kN/m (66 tf/m ). The ground bearing
2
pressure adopted in Figure 79 is 85% of this value, which means 56tf/m .
Whenever a crawler crane works in the areas described on next page, the pressure under it will be
2
limited to 56tf/m . In any case the pressure exceeds this value, the use of mats must be mandatory,
2
in order to keep the pressure below the limit of 56tf/m .

The full-loaded crawler crane resulted in a pressure distribution that is represented in Figure 87. It was
based on several simulations of crane loading conditions using the software LICCON, which determines
the pressures below the crawlers. These analyses can be seen in Appendix A, page 121.
As an example, for the case showed in Figure 87, the radius of operation is 17,0m, the ballast weight 220tf
(configuration BW) and the load carried by the crane, 254,5tf. This pressure distribution can be found in
Appendix A, page 122, last row, for a 15 boom angle (plan view). This case also comprises the basic
crane configuration (CASE 2), for the crane moving the A and B piles alignment. All cases described in
Appendix A, page 122, last row, must be analyzed.

The unloaded crawler crane, just after unloading heavy pieces, resulted in a pressure distribution that is
represented in Figure 90, acting along the A and B piles alignment according to Figure 88 and Figure 89 .
It was based on the LICCON software. These simulations also can be seen in Appendix A, page 121.
As an example, for the case showed in Figure 90, the radius of operation is 9,0m, 178 tf counterweight and
a 49,0m boom length. This pressure distribution can be found in Appendix A, page 122, first row, for a 15

5.3. IMPACT
It must be considered an increasing factor to be applied to the prescribed static loading previously
presented, as a common practice in order to take into account the dynamic effects of the moving loads.
In this regard, if not specified by the manufacturer of the equipment, it will be adopted here the
recommendations presented in Ref.[3], for onshore lifting operations.
The Dynamic Amplification Coefficient (DAF) to be applied for each load type is presented in Table 7.

This factor was determined based on the maximum load; DAF = 1.10 if 100 tf < Load < 1 000 tf.
DAF = 1.05 if Load 1 000 tf.
DAF = 1.15 if Load 100 tf.
DAF applies only if the crane moves while it hangs the load. Otherwise, DAF = 1.00.

6. LOAD COMBINATIONS
As usual, the different loading cases presented in Section 5 must be combined to each other, also
including all relevant applied loads which may have a non-null probability to occur during the lifetime of the
structure (which typically comprises dead loading, wind action, soil settlements, etc.).
The criteria for such combinations of different loadings and load cases must comply with the prescriptions
presented in Ref.[4]. An alternative Standard, if it is similar in purpose to that referred to in Ref.[4], may
also be used in this regard, provided that it is issued and supported by a reputable institution whose
competence is recognized by the technical and academic communities.
Therefore, in order to determine whether or not a structure meets the prescribed safety requirements, it is
considered herein the Limit States approach. Such standards set out all the required definitions and
suitable criteria for the quantification of Actions and Resistances to be considered in the design to finally
determine whether a structure resists to some well-defined performance requirements with respect to
Ultimate or Serviceability limit states.
It is not presented in this document the criteria to be followed in the design of a structure in order to fulfill
the Safety Requirements. In this regard, the reader shall refer to Ref.[4]. Instead, the only purpose here is
to merely inform and to guide how one should work to properly consider such criteria in the particular case
of the covered scope (i.e. the structural analyses of the structures that comprise the facilities of the
Paraguau Shipyard).
In this regard:
The characteristic values of the actions shall comply with the specifications presented herein;
The partial factors f (for the actions, to be used in the set of pre-defined combinations) and m (for
the strength of the materials applied) shall comply with those specified in Ref.[4]. However, some
particular definitions for the partial factors will be required, based on the knowledge and on the
experience of specialized personnel, since such kind of structure is not covered by the scope of
the usual Standards;
The factors to define the combination value of a variable action shall be taken as 1.0 in all
normal combinations for the loading cases presented in Section 5, since the probability of
simultaneous occurrence of the maximum pick values of all the concomitant actions will surely
happen in this case;
However, further investigations will be required in case of either a special or an exceptional loading
is considered (if any) in a particular set of combinations. In such cases, proper definitions for the
factors shall be considered according to the prescriptions of Ref.[4]. A proper judgment of the
Structural Engineer is required in such cases;
Dynamic effects shall be considered for some loadings presented in Section 5, by the use of
amplification factors as presented in 5.3. These amplification factors must be taken into account in
the corresponding combinations;
All loads presented in Section 5 are classified as Variable Loads; therefore, only the unfavorable
effects of the loads shall be considered. Any favorable action must then be disregarded and the
geometric disposition of the load shall be adjusted accordingly;
The Structural Engineer may use as many combinations as required to precisely determine if the
structures fulfill the Safety Requirements as prescribed in Ref.[4]. Again, however, a good
judgment and sound knowledge of structural analysis are valuable tools to render such analyses
as simple as possible.
