QUESTION 1 (20 marks)

a. A system is represented by the following differential equation.

iv. Find the response, 𝑐(𝑡) to an input 𝑟(𝑡) = 𝑒 −3𝑡 𝑢(𝑡), assuming zero initial (5)
conditions.

b. Consider the electric circuit shown in Fig. 1. Determine the transfer function,
𝑉𝐿 (𝑠)/𝑉(𝑠). (7)

a. A system is represented by the following function.

QUESTION 4 (20 marks)

a. Fig. 6 depicts a block diagram of a system which accepts signal and produces (10)
output. The spectrum of the input signal, 𝑀(𝜔) is shown as well in Fig. 6 and note
that 𝑐1 (𝑡) = 𝑐2 (𝑡) = sin(𝜔𝑐 𝑡). Sketch 𝑌(𝜔) and 𝑍(𝜔).

b. Consider a sinusoidal modulating signal 𝑚(𝑡) = 𝑐𝑜𝑠⁡6,000𝑡 and a carrier wave (4)

b. Design a Butterworth low-pass analogue filter that has a −1⁡𝑑𝐵 cutoff


frequency of 75⁡𝐻𝑧 and has greater than 20⁡𝑑𝐵 of attenuation for all (10)
frequencies greater than 150⁡𝐻𝑧.
