O PRESIDENTE DA CMARA THE MAYOR
A chegada do ms de Novembro, j no ciclo de fim de ano, convida-nos redescoberta e reencontro de imagens, festividades e tradies a elas associadas que, pelo forte significado de que se revestem, ocupam lugar de relevo no calendrio de eventos da presente edio. Assim, comeo por referir o S. Martinho, das castanhas, do vinho e das festas-convvio a realizarem-se um pouco por todo o Concelho. A programao do Cine-Teatro Louletano estar tambm em evidncia com a pea de teatro O memorial de Pedro e Ins, a msica de Tigerman e a Dana Flamenga. No plano desportivo estar em destaque o prestigiado Tap Open Golfe, a ter lugar em Vilamoura. Eis pois que a proximidade do fim do ano nos oferece sugestes que, estou certo, a todos permitiro desfrutar de um ms de Novembro aprazvel e enriquecedor para as nossas vidas e tempos de lazer.
The arrival of November, in the cycle that completes the year, calls on us to rediscover and reunite with the images, festivities and traditions that are associated to this season which, because of the importance that is attached to it, will receive special attention in this editions calendar of events. Thus I start by mentioning St. Martins, the chestnuts, the wine and the parties that will take place all over the County. The Louletano Cinema and Theatres program will also be in focus, with the Play The memorial of Pedro and Ins, the Tigermans music and Flamenco Dance. In the sports area, our focus goes to the prestigious Tap Open Golf, to be held in Vilamoura. Thus the closeness to the end of the year offers suggestions that, I am certain, will enable each and everyone to enjoy a month of November that will be both pleasant and enriching for our lives and for our times of leisure.

THE ENCHANTED WORLD - EXHIBITION BY JOO PARAMS Vale do Lobo Art Gallery - Vale do Lobo Org.: Vale do Lobo Art Gallery and So Loureno Cultural Centre
Joo Params considerado um dos mais talentosos e promissores artistas portugueses da sua gerao, pelo inconfundvel estilo repleto de cor e fantasia. Nascido em Lisboa em 1978, Joo Params estudou na Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes de Lisboa e na Escola Universitria das Artes de Coimbra, realizando vrias exposies em Portugal e no estrangeiro, nomeadamente: Frana, Alemanha, Canad e Estados Unidos. Agora Gallery, em Nova Iorque, escreve sobre a sua obra: Figuras fortes de cores audaciosas povoam as pinturas de Joo Params, personagens estranhas evoluem em cenas misteriosas provocando um choque de cores primrias. Este tipo de paleta e de composio lembram as ltimas obras de Matisse e Mir, apesar das figuras humanas, animais e hbridas de Params serem mais prximas dos nons satricos de Bruce Nauman.
Joo Params is considered one of the most talented and promising Portuguese artists of his generation owing to his distinctive colourful and fantasyful style. Born in Lisbon in 1978, Joo Params studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Lisbon and at the University School of Arts in Coimbra, having held several exhibitions in Portugal as well as abroad, viz.: France, Germany, Canada and USA. The Agora Gallery, in New York wrote about his work: Joo Params paintings are populated by strong figures in bold colours; strange characters evolve in mysterious scenarios creating a clash of primary colours. This type of palette and composition reminds us of Matisse and Mirs last works, although Params human, animal and hybrid figures are closer to Bruce Naumanns satiric neons.

ANTNIO ROCHA EXHIBITION Praa do Mar Art Gallery - Quarteira Org.: Loul City Council
Estilo de Desenho exclusivamente utilizando traos na vertical. Executado sem qualquer auxilio de aparelhos, rgua ou esquadro. Este tipo de desenho executado inteiramente a mo livre com uma caneta Rotring 0,10. Antes feito um esboo com lpis muito macio para simples orientao do motivo que vai ser realizado, que no final meticulosamente apagado. Este estilo de desenho foi criado em Outubro de 1989 pelo Artista. Os trabalhos de Antnio Rocha, j fizeram parte de exposies espalhadas por todo o pas e tambm no estrangeiro, nomeadamente na Acadmie Europenne des Arts Gembloux na Blgica.
Drawing Style using only vertical strokes. Carried out without the help of any devices, ruler or setsquare. This type of drawing is made entirely free hand, with a 0.10 Rotring pen. He starts with a rough draft made with a very soft pencil just to guide the motif that will be made and which is carefully erased in the end. This drawing style was created by the Artist in October 1989. Antnio Rochas work has been on display in exhibitions all over Portugal and abroad, viz. at the Acadmie Europenne des Arts Gembloux in Belgium.

Title: DUARTE PACHECO FROM TECHNICIAN TO TERREIRO DO PAO Management: Commission for the Centenary of the Instituto Superior Tcnico School of Engineering Publisher: Althum.com DUARTE PACHECO FROM TECHNICIAN TO TERREIRO DO PAO is the title of the work on this renowned character, born in Loul, included in the Exhibition at the Instituto Superior Tcnico. A man who lived fast and died young, which marked not only the Technician but the whole Country, who bequeathed an impressive work to us, who dedicated his life to the public cause and who, despite the years that have elapsed since his death (in 1943), maintains his charisma as minister for Public Works and Communication and who is still acknowledged today by admirers and adversaries alike of the regime he served. Jaime Rua wrote about him, in the newspaper A Voz de Loul, that He is present and will continue to be, consciously or unconsciously, in the soul () of many future generations that will be affected by the dynamic influence of this national genius who fleetingly crossed the Portuguese space.
DUARTE PACHECO DO TCNICO AO TERREIRO DO PAO o ttulo desta obra sobre to ilustre personalidade, natural de Loul, integrada na Exposio do Instituto Superior Tcnico. Um homem que viveu velozmente e que faleceu novo, que marcou no s o Tcnico como todo um Pas, que nos legou uma obra impressionante, que votou a sua vida causa pblica e que, volvidos todos estes anos aps a sua morte (em 1943), mantm o seu carisma de ministro das Obras Pblicas e Comunicaes e que ainda hoje reconhecido quer por admiradores quer por adversrios do regime que serviu. Sobre ele escreveu Jaime Rua, no jornal A Voz de Loul, Ele est e perdurar consciente ou inconscientemente, na alma () de muitas geraes vindouras, que sofrero a influncia dinmica desse gnio nacional que cruzou fugaz o espao portugus.

Cinema - Remembering in portuguese O Leo da Estrela With the cinema cycles Recalling Portuguese cinema we intend to show some films, although this time within a more specific cycle, viz. Portuguese cinema. Cast: Antnio Silva (Anastcio), Mil (Juj, Anastcios daughter), Maria Eugnia (Branca), Erico Braga (Mr. Barata), Laura Alves (Rosa, Anastcios maid) Summary: Anastcio da Silva, a tenacious fan of the Spoirting Club goes to Porto to watch the Final Cup Match taking his wife and their two daughters with them. They stay as guests in the house of the very wealthy Barata family who believe that their guests also have a distinguished origin. The situation gets complicated when Eduardo Barata, the couples son, falls in love with Juj, Anastcios daughter and the two decide to get married. The ceremony is to take place in Lisbon and the father of the bride has to keep up appearances at all costs.

DANCE VALE Louletano Cinema and Theatre Show room A contemporary dance show that gathers 8 dancers, 6 musicians and a group of close to 30 people of all ages on the same stage. Vale is an experience of moving images that touches the skin of the spectator. Image in which they raise from the earth what there exists of horse in a man, what of animal may be concealed in the activities of the soul. In a naked but live, resounding and human scenario we find a show where live music strongly draws the almost brute force of the crowd, as much as the sweetness of the tiniest gesture. DIA DE FINADOS O dia de Todos os Santos, feriado religioso, celebra-se no dia 1 de Novembro, em honra de todos os santos e mrtires, conhecidos ou no. , na tradio catlica, um chamamento santidade, para que cada pessoa imite Cristo no seu percurso de vida. Antigamente, em muitas localidades do nosso Pas era costume as crianas sarem rua, em pequenos grupos, para pedir o Po por Deus de porta em porta. Pediam recitando versos e recebiam em troca po, bolinhos, roms, frutos secos, que colocavam dentro dos seus sacos de pano. A tradio foi desaparecendo e hoje so raras as pessoas que se lembram dela. No dia 2 de Novembro celebra-se o dia dos Fiis Defuntos ou dia de Finados. As pessoas vo aos cemitrios e rezam pelos entes queridos j falecidos. Deixam ramos de flores nas campas, geralmente constitudos por crisntemos, e acendem velas, transformando os cemitrios num verdadeiro jardim de saudade e sentimento. Estes dias so dias de grande significado religioso e de profundas manifestaes de f.

The All Saints Day is a religious holiday, celebrated on the 1 November in honour of all the saints and martyrs, whether known or not. In the catholic tradition it is a calling to sanctity, inviting each person to imitate Christ in his life path. In the past, in many of the localities of our Country, it was customary practice for children to go door to door in small groups to ask for Bread by God. They asked, reciting verses and in exchange received bread, cookies, pomegranates and dried fruits, which they put in their bread bags. Tradition has disappeared and today only very few remember it. On the 2 November is celebrated the day of the Departed Faithful or Dead. People go to the cemeteries and pray for their lost loved ones. They leave flower bouquets on the graves, usually chrysanthemums, and light candles, transforming the cemeteries into a true garden of longing and of sentimental introspection. These are days of great religious meaning and of deep manifestations of faith.

Neste momento difcil que o pas atravessa, o antigo Ministro ir falar sobre Compreender a crise, para sair dela. Manuel Maria Ferreira Carrilho nasceu em Coimbra, em 1951. Licenciou-se em Filosofia na Universidade de Lisboa (1975) e fez os estudos de Ps-graduao na Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Foi nesta Universidade que, em 1985, fez o Doutoramento em Filosofia Contempornea e, em 1993, fez as provas de agregao. Professor Catedrtico da Universidade Nova de Lisboa desde 1994. Recebeu vrias medalhas e condecoraes, nomeadamente, em 1998, a medalha Picasso/Mir da Unesco e, em 1999, o European Archaelogical Heritage Prize, da European Association of Archaeologists. Foi galardoado pelo Rei de Espanha, em 1996, com a Gran Cruz da Ordem de Mrito Civil. O Presidente do Brasil, Fernando Henriques Cardoso agraciou-o em 1997, com a Gra-Cruz da Ordem do Rio Branco, e em 1999 o Presidente da Repblica Francesa atribui-lhe o grau de Grand Officier da Lgion dHonneur .

At these difficult times that the country is going through, the former Minister will be talking about Understanding the crisis in order to come out of it. Manuel Maria Ferreira Carrilho was born in Coimbra in 1951. He graduated from the Lisbon Universitys Faculty of Philosophy (1975) and did his postgraduate studies at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. It was at this University that, in 1985, he obtained his doctorate in Contemporary Philosophy and, in 1993, he did his aggregation exams. Since 1994 he has been a Professor at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has received several medals and awards, viz. in 1998 the Unesco Picasso-Miro Medal and in 1999 the European Archaeological Heritage Prize, from the European Association of Archaeologists. In 1996 he was awarded the Grand Cross for Civil Merit by the King of Spain. In 1997 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Rio Branco by the President of Brazil, Fernando Henriques Cardoso and in 1999 the President of the French Republic awarded him the title Grand Officier de la Lgion dHonneur.

34 OPEN TAP EM GOLFE Campos Laguna, Pinhal, Old Course e Victoria - Vilamoura Org.: Tap Como anualmente acontece, o torneio de golfe amador mais antigo que se realiza ininterruptamente em Portugal desde 1977, organizado pela TAP, ser de novo disputado inteiramente no concelho de Loul. Entre 12 e 19 de Novembro, estaro em Vilamoura, cerca de 250 jogadores e 50 acompanhantes. O torneio desde sempre concebido para promover o Algarve como destino de golfe e a Tap como transportador preferencial, tem sido veculo promocional de excelncia e tem trazido at ao Algarve, ao longo dos anos, dezenas de milhar de praticantes. O Tap Open jogado em strokeplay ao longo de quatro dias, antecedido de dois dias de treino. Com a presena de representantes de mais de 15 pases, destacamos este ano a confirmao da frica do sul como pais com o maior nmero de golfistas, seguido da ustria e do Brasil.

34TH TAP OPEN GOLF Laguna, Pinhal, Old Course and Victoria Courses - Vilamoura Org.: Tap As every year, the oldest amateur golf tournament held in Portugal without interruption since 1977, organized by TAP, will be held again, entirely in Loul County. Between the 12 and the 19 November about 250 players and 50 friends will attend the tournament at Vilamoura. The tournament, designed from the very start to promote Algarve as a golf destination and Tap as preferred carrier, has been a promotional vehicle of excellence and has brought tens of thousands of golf practitioners to Algarve over the years. The Tap Open is played as strokeplay throughout the four days of the tournament which will be preceded by two days of practice. Salir Commune - Salir Org.: Salir Cultural Association The Motorsports Department of Salir Cultural Association will organize the 13th edition of the Salir Radical Off-road, included once more in the regional Sul do 4X4 Plus, which main objective is to offer to the participants and to the public moments of entertainment loaded with adrenalin. For those who think that the car driving show is only speed, the Salir Off Road team has created 6 tracks with high technical level, with a concentrated number of obstacles that will allow the public to park their cars and, practically without having to get out of their cars, attend in safety the impressive manoeuvres carried out by pilots, navigators and machines. The Salir Radical Offroad will be the last event of this season organized by the regional Sul. With the classifications running high, the best teams are awaited and despite the Off road spirit and the good humour, everyone will do their best.

STIOS E TRADIES PLACES AND TRADITIONS
CALADA DA PENA (SALIR)

Com a Rocha da Pena ao fundo, Calada da Pena, na freguesia de Salir, um interessante stio rural com uma paisagem tpica da beira serra. Abundam as rvores de sequeiro, como as alfarrobeiras, as amendoeiras, as figueiras e as oliveiras. Fomos ao encontro de Joaquim Viegas Guerreiro, popularmente conhecido por Joaquim Vicente, de 80 anos, casado e com uma filha. Natural da Nave das Sobreiras, passou algum tempo na Nave do Baro e depois emigrou para Frana onde esteve 17 anos. De regresso a Portugal, fixou-se na Calada da Pena e vive aqui h 41 anos. Antigamente as gentes da Calada viviam sobretudo do cultivo da fava, do trigo e da cevada. Eram cerca de uma vintena de moradores divididos por 7 habitaes. Hoje esse nmero est reduzido a metade, sendo a maioria das pessoas reformada. A Calada da Pena sofreu tambm com o fenmeno da desertificao, embora tenham resistido algumas famlias que aqui continuaram a fazer a vida. With the Pena Rock in the background, Calada da Pena, in Salir commune, is an interesting rural place with a landscape that is typical for mountain edge areas. Draught trees, such as carob, almond, fig and olive trees abound. We went to meet Joaquim Viegas Guerreiro, popularly known as Joaquim Vicente, 80 years old, married and has one daughter. Born in Nave das Sobreiras, he spent some time in Nave do Baro from where he later emigrated to France where he lived for 17 years. On his return to Portugal he settled in Calada da Pena where he has been living for 41 years now. In the past, the people from Calada lived, mainly from growing broad beans, wheat and barley. They were about twenty dwellers living in 7 houses. Today this number has dropped to half, of which most are retired. Calada da Pena has also suffered the phenomenon of desertification, although some families have resisted and continue to make a life here.

Jos Joo Ascenso Pablos nasceu na freguesia de S. Clemente em 15 de Agosto de 1910. A 7 de Abril de 1956 tomou posse como Vice-Presidente da Cmara Municipal de Loul. Foi nomeado Presidente da referida edilidade a 4 de Setembro de 1957, cargo que exerceu at 2 de Janeiro de 1959. A sua aco enquanto Presidente incidiu na continuao do projecto educativo dos cursos nocturnos, na electrificao do Concelho e da Av. Jos da Costa Mealha, na construo de um lavadouro pblico em Quarteira e no incio da 2 fase da construo do Parque Municipal. Depois de um interregno, em que fora Presidente do Municpio Francisco Guerreiro Barros, nas Actas de Vereao de 12 de Abril de 1962, o nome de Jos Joo Ascenso Pablos volta a surgir como Presidente, no sendo no entanto possvel datar a 1 sesso a que presidiu. Neste segundo mandato destacam-se as seguintes iniciativas: a beneficiao de fontes pblicas, a aprovao do Parque de Turismo de Quarteira, a ampliao do cemitrio, a reparao do Mercado Municipal de Loul, o projecto da rede de esgotos de Quarteira, o estabelecimento do mercado mensal em Boliqueime, entre outras. Jos Joo Ascenso Pablos was born in S. Clemente commune on 15 August 1910. On 7 April 1956 he took office as Deputy-Mayor of Loul. He was appointed Mayor of the aforementioned town council on 4 September 1957, a position that he held until 2 January 1959. His action as Mayor was focused on the continuation of the educational night-school project, the electrification of the County and of Jos da Costa Mealha Avenue, the construction of a public washing place in Quarteira and the start of the 2nd stage of the construction of the Municipal Park. After a time lag during which Francisco Guerreiro Barros was mayor, the name Jos Joo Ascenso Pablos shows up again as Mayor in the Town Council Minutes of 12 April 1962, although it has not been possible to establish the date of the first session that he chaired. The following initiatives stand out in his second term as mayor: The improvement of public fountains, the adoption of the Quarteira Tourism Park, the enlargement of the cemetery, the revamping of the Municipal Market, the Quarteira Sewage Network Project and the setting up of a monthly market in Boliqueime, among other. A Rua Dr. Jos Pedro tem incio na Av. Infante de Sagres e termina na Av. S Carneiro. Por proposta do ento presidente da Cmara Municipal de Loul, Jos Joo Ascenso Pablos, em reunio realizada a 15 de Novembro de 1962, foi aprovada por unanimidade a atribuio do nome do Dr. Jos Pedro a uma rua de Quarteira. Natural de Loul, Jos Pedro nasceu a 22 de Dezembro de 1886 e faleceu em Lisboa no dia 3 de Abril de 1937. Frequentou o curso de Teologia no Seminrio de Faro, contudo, no sentindo vocao para o mister do sacerdcio, transferiu-se para Coimbra, matriculando-se na Faculdade de Direito, onde se formou com distino. Abriu escritrio de advogado em Loul e tornou-se um dos mais distintos causdicos da regio, dedicando-se com tenacidade s causas que defendeu, advogando-as com perfeio, subtileza e galhardia. Desempenhou alguns cargos pblicos no concelho de Loul, destacando-se a vice-presidncia da Cmara Municipal, no ano de 1932, cuja Comisso Administrativa era presidida pelo Dr. Jos Joaquim Soares. Dr. Jos Pedro St. starts at Infante de Sagres Ave. and ends at S Carneiro Ave.On a proposal from the then mayor of Loul, Jos Joo Ascenso Pablos, submitted during a sitting held on 15 November 1962, it was unanimously decided to name a street in Quarteira after Dr. Jos Pedro. Born in Loul on 22 December 1886, Jos Pedro died in Lisbon on 3 April 1937. He attended a Theology course at the Faro Seminary, however, not feeling a call to priesthood, he transferred to Coimbra and enrolled at the Faculty of Law from where he graduated with honours. He opened his law practice in Loul and became one of the most illustrious barristers of the region, devoting his life with tenacity to the causes which he defended, advocating with perfection, subtlety and gallantry. He held a number of public offices in the Loul County with emphasis to the position as Deputy-Mayor in 1932, which Administrative Commission was chaired by Dr. Jos Joaquim Soares. ()Cerca das 10 horas, comearam a afluir os convidados ao recinto que lhes fora destinado, junto do monumento a inaugurar, em frente de uma tribuna artisticamente concebida e executada. Entretanto, uma multido que no ser exagerado em avaliar em mais de 20.000 pessoas, postara-se nos passeios, ao longo das Avenidas de Jos da Costa Mealha e General Carmona, por onde passaria o sr. CLICE CUSTDIA Trabalho portugus Sculo XVII (finais) Prata dourada, vidro Alte, igreja paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Assuno A pea de arte sacra intervencionada neste ms um clice-custdia, pertencente Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assuno, Alte. Clice-custdia um objecto sagrado que tem dupla funo tal como o prprio nome indica. O seu conjunto utilizado em situaes onde o Santssimo Sacramento exposto aos crentes ou transportado numa procisso. A parte superior tem dois vidros redondos no centro onde se coloca a hstia consagrada que sustentada por um pequeno semicrculo designado lnula. Quando separado a parte inferior utilizada durante a celebrao litrgica da Eucaristia para consagrar o vinho. um dos objectos sagrados mais representativos da ltima Ceia de Cristo, simbolizando o Santo Graal (clice usado por Jesus). Esta pea teve uma interveno mnima de limpeza e consolidao do suporte.
CUSTODIAL CHALICE Portuguese work 17th Century (late) Gilt silver, glass Alte, Nossa Senhora da Assuno Parish Church
The sacred art item subject to intervention in this month is a custodial chalice belonging to the Nossa Senhora da Assuno Church in Alte. A custodial chalice is a sacred object that has a dual function as the name indicates. The set is used in situations when the Blessed Sacrament is displayed to the faithful or carried during a procession. The upper part has two round glasses in the centre, where the consecrated Host is placed, supported by a small half-circle called the lunule. When detached, the lower part is used during Liturgical Celebration of the Eucharist to consecrate wine. It is one of the most representative sacred objects of Christs Last Supper, symbolising the Holy Grail (the chalice used by Jesus). The item was subject to a minor cleaning intervention and consolidation of the holder. loul

ARROZ DE POLVO OCTUPUS RICE

ARROZ DE POLVO
Ingredientes 1,6 kg de Polvo; 350grs Tomates frescos; 320grs Arroz; 150grs Cebola; 2dl Vinho Tinto; 1,5dl Azeite; 1 Pimento Verde; 1 Ramo Salsa; 2 Dentes Alho; Piripiri q.b.; Sal q.b. Preparao Limpa-se o polvo das peles e lava-se bem. Depois de lavado, corta-se em pedaos pequenos. Descasca-se a cebola e os dentes de alho e pica-se fino. Retiram-se os ps dos tomates e escaldam-se em gua a ferver. Depois tira-se-lhes a pele e as sementes. Cortam-se em pedaos pequenos. Limpa-se o pimento das sementes e corta-se, igualmente em pedaos pequenos. Leva-se um tacho ao lume com azeite, os dentes de alho e a cebola. Deixa-se refogar. Junta-se o pimento e em seguida os tomates. Adiciona-se o polvo e deixa-se refogar por uns minutos. Junta-se-lhe o vinho e um pouco de gua. Deixa-se cozer. Tempera-se com sal e piripiri. Quando o polvo estiver cozido deita-se o arroz, devendo cozer mais 15 minutos. Dever ficar tipo arroz malandrino (um pouco liquido). Polvilha-se com salsa picada.

OCTUPUS RICE
Ingredients 1.6 kg octopus; 350g fresh tomatoes; 320g rice; 150g onion; 2dl red wine; 1.5dl olive oil; 1 green pepper; 1 spring of chopped parsley; 2 garlic cloves; piripiri to taste; salt to taste. Preparation Carefully remove the skin from the octopus and wash well. After washing cut into small pieces. Peel the onion and the garlic cloves and then chop finely. Remove the stems from the tomatoes and dip them in boiling water. Remove the skin and the seeds. Remove the seeds from the green peppers and chop finely as well. Heat the olive oil, the garlic and the onion in a pan over a moderate heat until golden. Add the pepper and then the tomatoes. Add the octopus and let it fry gently for several minutes. Add the wine and a little water. Leave to cook. Season with salt and piripiri. When the octopus is cooked add the rice and cook for a further 15 minutes. The rice should be sort of malandrinho (which means still quite damp). Serve with a sprinkle of chopped parsley.
