ENTREVISTA
Tony Porter: "Men who batter women were educated for it"
The American activist who fights to end violence against women says
time to train the boys families should ask a simple question: what kind of man
you want for your daughter? (NATHALIA ZIEMKIEWICZ )
atividades. Porter fundou a organizao no governamental Call to Men (Um
debate promovido pelas mulheres.
Ele esteve no Rio
adolescentes.
poca You grew up in the suburbs of New York. What do your family
and your community taught him about being a man?
Tony Porter I learned that most men learn: women should obey us, they
are fragile and has less value. I lived in the neighborhoods of Harlem and the Bronx
where there was domestic violence. Everyone knew that the woman abused her
neighbor, but it "was not nobody's business." I grew up surrounded by good men who
loved their wives, but did not realize that their behavior diminishes them perpetuated
violence. They were just doing what men always did the men.
poca Like his father reacted when you cry?
Porter I do not remember! (laughs). Because I could not cry. But I was
always the kid's mom, could feed the gentle and loving hand. The only time I ever
saw my father cry was the death of my brother, who was still a teenager. We were
alone when it happened. Then he was so embarrassed that he apologized to me. He
applauded me for not being in tears, saying that I was very strong. But I cried after,
hidden.
13
14
Porter The first thing to make sure they understand that this sick idea of
masculinity is the basis of domestic and sexual violence. Violence is not related to
mental illness, lack of ability to deal with anger, stress, or chemical dependency. It is
related to the traditional domain of men.
poca In Brazil, it is very common for women to make police report
only instrument of threat. Many repent, withdraw the complaint at the police
station and are then beaten. Why is it so difficult to leave a violent partner?
Porter - 'll answer with another question. Why, many times, this woman asks
for help and we make her feel ashamed, instead of actually welcome it and support it.
Why did she have to explain it was blamed for violence suffered? I call it "revitimizar"
the woman. Besides the violence experienced at home, she looks for help in an
institution and becomes a victim a second time.

vamos entender o que IPA, Phonetics and Phonology.
PHONETICS
Phonetics is the study of the way people physical produce and perceive
the different sound we use to create speech. These sounds are called
phonemes and are created by the various organs of speech in the body,
including the tongue, the soft and hard palate, lips, pharynx, etc. phonetics,
unlike phonology, is not concerned in any way with the meaning connected to
these sounds.14
PHONOLOGY
Phonology is the study of the way speech sound are structured and
how theses are combined to create meaning in words and sentences.
Phonology can be considered an aspect of grammar and, just as there are
grammar rules that apply to the syntax of a sentence and the morphology of
words, there are phonological rules, too.15
