Coleta de dados:
1. “Each trial began with a short auditory tone followed by a
150-ms interstimulus interval. For the 01 stimulus, the
fixation dot was extinguished during this interval to
diminish any possible forward masking. For the two
peripheral conditions, the fixation dot remained visible
throughout the trial. The stimuli were then presented for 100
ms. The task was to indicate the orientation (up/down) of
the center T by pressing the corresponding key on the

Intervenção:
1. “For both groups, training consisted of playing the
predetermined video game for a total of 30 hr (maximum
of 2 hr per day, minimum of 5 hr per week, maximum of 8
hr per week). Each 1-hr session of play was divided into
three 20-min blocks. The difficulty of each block was
adjusted on the basis of the kill/death ratio. If in a block the
player scored more than twice as many kills as deaths, the
difficulty of the next block was increased one level. Also,
players were periodically retested on levels of lower
difficulty to assess improvement quantitatively. The 16
members of the control group played the game Tetris,
which was displayed to cover the entire extent of the screen
(extent from fixation: 181 high x 131 wide). Thus, the field
of view of the Tetris game was slightly larger than that of
the action game. Tetris was selected to control for the effect
of improved visuomotor coordination while minimizing the
processing of multiple objects at once. Accordingly, the
version of Tetris on which subjects were trained had the
preview-block option turned off.”
Métodos estatísticos:
1. “Subjects provided written informed consent to participate
and were paid $8 per hour.”

Coleta de dados:
1. “Participants performed all the tasks in a group in a
computer lab. They were first briefed on the requirements
in the study but were not explicitly told what games they
were assigned to play during training. Performance of the
laboratory tasks was done in a random order. Time taken
to complete all laboratory tasks was about 1 h. Each
participant was individually briefed upon task completion
regarding the game they were to download onto their
personal device (iPhone/iPod Touch). After the training,
they returned for the same set of computerized tasks.
Participants only returned after at least 24-h after their
gameplay cessation. This washout period was to control for
arousal effects arising from their last session of gameplay
which might in turn affect their performance at the post-
test as their arousal from playing the game may induce
strategy changes in the transfer tasks (cf. Nelson and
Strachan, 2009). The posttraining sessions were conducted
in the same manner again with randomization of the
transfer tasks. At the post-training session, participants’
handsets were also checked to ascertain that they
downloaded the game and played it. A debriefing followed.
Participants were not informed beforehand that their
devices would be checked. It was verified that all
participants downloaded and played the game.

Intervenção:
1. “Participants were instructed to play their assigned game 5
days a week for 1 h each time (for a total of 20 h). They
were also told to not exceed the amount of prescribed
duration or play other games. Since participants were all
non-gamers, there is little likelihood of them violating the
restrictions.”
2. Descrição dos jogos utilizados e suas peculiaridades:
“Modern Combat: Sandstorm (Gameloft), Metal Gear
Solid (MGS) Touch, Super Sniper
Deer Hunter’’; “As mentioned previously, the games

selective attention, multiple object tracking, and visual
search (see Table 1 for a summary). As these differences
are arbitrarily defined, it is difficult to provide quantitative
metrics of the differences. However, some distinct
differences can be stated. We make some comparisons
based on gameplay at the lowest level of each game (level

No

bastante similar (49% homens e 51% mulheres).
