DISCREPÂNCIA REPORTADA:
Durante atendimento rotineiro de transito, a manutenção observou o não acendimento da Refuel
Valve Indicator Light ao se posicionar a switch para a posição open durante o inicio do
abastecimento da aeronave. Esta switch está localizada no painel de abastecimento da asa,
conforme imagem de referencia abaixo:

DESCRIPTION:

In the ref /C/ message GOL Airlines (GOT) reported they have received reports from maintenance staff about
refueling valve indicator light ref /A/ failure.

GOT believes that the defect is only a light indication problem and the aircraft can be released to service.
However, GOT does not have a proper MEL item to support reference.
Note that Ref /B/ MEL is regarding the Re-fueling system and do not mention the Ref/A/ light test.

Desired Action
======================
GOT would like to know if Boeing has a technical objection to continue revenue operation of aircraft without ref
/A/ installed or failure until it can be replace.

RESPONSE:

The 344A2801-2 refueling panel on the datum airplane contains (3) ref /A/ indicator lights, each indicating if
the respective fueling shutoff valve has power to open. The refueling panel, its valves, and the indicator lights
are typically only used during ground refueling operations, and cannot be accessed in flight.

As GOL Airlines notes there is no specific MEL item that addresses the ref /A/ light, however, the ref /B/ MEL
item does provide relief for an inoperative fueling shutoff valve.

Provided the operator verifies the valve(s) with the defective ref /A/ indicator operates and is verified closed
each time just prior to closing the refueling panel, Boeing has no technical objection, (NTO), to continue
revenue operation until the ref /A/ indicator is repaired or replaced. If the valve(s) can not be operated
electrically the ref /D/ AMM procedure can be used.

Depending on the failure mode of the refuel valve indicator light, the ref /E/ service letter may be beneficial in
addressing the failed light.
