l'I'+
.
vaste monde (SALAZAR).
Na Europa, o pequeno Portugal Continental; no Atlantico, as «Ilhas Adjacentes»
PORTUGAL

c!'3y the special circumstances of its birth and expansion, the Portuguese state, eight
centuries old, offers us an example of a politic body whose territory is not one single unit but
which extends over four continents; the populations of the separate parts which go to form
it, however, united without any racial discrimination and therefore in perfect moral unity: «Our
nation has its head in Europe and its limbs stretched over the wide world» (SALAZAR).

We see therefore that the Portuguese make their presence felt both in the old and in
the new countries of the world, and that they penetrate in large numbers as far as the most
distant islands of the Pacific (Hawai). Their call to wander over the world is as strong
today as ever.
