OCORRNCIA DE GIBERELINAS EM
PLANTAS
As giberelinas (GA) so amplamente
distribudas
no reino vegetal.
Elas esto presentes em toda a planta,
podendo
ser detectadas em folhas, caules, sementes,
embries
e gros de plen.
As giberelinas constituem uma grande
famlia de
cidos diterpnicos tetracclicos e so
sintetizadas
por um ramo da via dos terpenides.

Iniciao floral
As GAs podem substituir estmulos ambientais
necessrios para a induo do florescimento
em algumas
espcies.
Determinao do sexo
o processo pelo qual flores unissexuais so
formadas em plantas monicas (como pepino
e milho) e
diicas (como espinafre e Cannabis sativa).
A determinao do sexo geneticamente
regulada,
podendo sofrer influncia de fatores
ambientais
(fotoperodo, temperatura e estado
nutricional) e estes
efeitos ambientais podem ser mediados pelas
GAs.

Gibberellin induces growth in Thompsons seedless grapes. The bunch on the left is an
untreated control. The bunch on the right was sprayed with GA3 during fruit development.

Gibberellin causes elongation of the leaf sheath of rice seedlings, and this response is used in the dwarf rice
leaf sheath bioassay. Here, 4-day-old seedlings were treated with increasing amounts of GA3 and allowed to
grow for another 5 days. (Courtesy of P. Davies.)
