Informations
• Thanksgiving Day is one of the most important holidays in
the United States. Generally, during the date, people use
their free time to gather family and close friends. It is also a
day that many people dedicate to religious thoughts and
gratitude, prayers and masses.
• The day is always celebrated on the last Thursday of
November.
History (legend)
• According to legend, it all began in 1620, when the
Mayflower, sailing from England and taking many families
aboard, also brought pilgrims on board who, fleeing religious
persecution, came to America in search of the long-awaited
religious freedom. Arriving on the American continent, they
founded thirteen colonies, which were considered the seed
and root of the United States of America.
• The first difficult year for those who came. Cold and hunger
were the biggest challenges for those who arrived with the
will to achieve a better life. Even with so much difficulty, they
were not discouraged. They worked hard cutting trees,
building houses and sowing the soil. Native American Indians
taught how to improve the crop, and their harvests went
from poor to plentiful. Very grateful, they gathered the best
fruits and invited the Indians to a celebration of gratitude,
with a big party.
• And so “Thanksgiving Day” was born, celebrated until today
in the United States, on the fourth Thursday of November, a
date established
The trufh
• The real story of Thanksgiving is that these people who
arrived on Mayflower were not the first Europeans to land
here. The colonies already existed and most of those who
arrived here had a good living condition there. And thanking
the Indians is nothing more than a fairy tale, because at that
time there was an enormous slaughter. Many Indians died
and this thank you party never happened.
Celebretions
• The party works as a kind of commemoration for the good
events that took place throughout the year. Thus, people
usually get together for a hearty dinner with diversified
dishes, such as potatoes, purees, pies, apples, breads, among
other foods. Turkey, for example, is always stuffed and served
at the table as the main dish on Thanksgiving.
• In addition to dinner, desserts are also served, such as
pumpkin pie (or pumpkin pie), which is one of the most
typical dishes of the celebration.
• Thanksgiving Day still stands out for its street parades in
some US cities, such as New York, Detroit and Chicago.
• The street performances feature characters from the
children's world, such as Mickey Mouse, Snoopy and
SpongeBob, who lull the audience into a party with plenty of
music. In addition, Thanksgiving is also celebrated at the
White House, in an event in which the president must
capture a male turkey and send him to a reservation,
institution or farm. This curious tradition is called the Turkey
Pardon.
Curiosities

 The turkey is very important for the event. It is speculated

that the bird became the symbol of the holiday precisely
because of the first Thanksgiving of the pilgrims.
• Today, in addition to being a time of thanksgiving and family
reunion, it is still a holiday that remembers and celebrates the
colonization of America, which became official only in 1863,
under Abraham Lincoln.
