A maioria dos [DO] em ingls tem o passado simples e o passado [COMO] formados com o (e)d no
final. Colocamos o ed quando [DO] termina em consoante e apenas d quando termina em vogal

Cook cozinhar (presente) significa

Cooked - passado simples
Cozinhei cozinhou cozinhamos, etc
e o passado [COMO]
cozido (cozinhado)
Use usar (presente) significa
Used - passado simples
Usei usou usamos, etc
e o passado [COMO]
usado

Em [DO] que terminam em y, tira-se o y e acrescenta-se ied:

Study estudar (presente) Studied - passado simples e o passado [COMO]
Essa a regra geral para formao do passado simples e do passado [COMO]. Lembramos que no
passado simples e no passado [COMO] a mesma palavra serve para todas as pessoas, no como no
presente onde [FAZER] com realizador he, she, it termina com (e)s.
Veja uma frase j utilizada:
The homework is done. O dever de casa est feito.
Como se v, done um passado [COMO] irregular, pois no termina em -ed. Ora, mas feito em
portugus tambm irregular, pois pela regra em portugus, o passado [COMO] formado quase sempre
com -ado ou -ido. Com o ingls tambm acontece da mesma regra no valer para todos os [FAZER]:
tem uma srie de [DO] que no seguem a regra geral de simplesmente acrescentar e d no final. Alguns
adquirem formas bem diferentes do presente, enquanto outros ficam iguais nas trs formas.
Como esses [DO] so irregulares, isto , no seguem a regra geral, a nica soluo decor-los.
Apresentaremos agora os principais. Para facilitar o estudo, procuramos agrup-los de acordo com
alguma semelhana entre elas.

Obs. Na parte de Comunicao Bsica dessa lio estudaremos a formao da voz passiva que,

como no portugus, utiliza o passado [COMO]. Por isso, observe bem a terceira coluna de cada tabela,
que apresenta o passado [COMO] de cada FAZER.

1C Here is the latest news:

Last night two horses were stolen from The Royal Circus. The two men who stole the
horses fled on the animals. But the horses were trained to always return to the circus at
night. The horses were taken to a small farm near the circus and were put into a corral.
After a few minutes, the horses jumped the fence and ran back to the circus. The circus owner was very happy to see the animals returning home. He told the reporters that this had
happened before and he knew that the animals would return again. Someone who works on
the farm made an anonymous phone call to the police and the two thieves were discovered
and arrested.
