O Homem que no Tinha Nada

William Hone era um professor ateu que viajava pelo pas fazendo palestras contra
os ensinos da santa Palavra de Deus. Um dia, ele estava passeando quando se perd
eu na estrada. Ele parou em um chal pobre e caindo aos pedaos, na frente da qual h
avia uma menina lendo um livro. Aps pedir por direes, ele pegou o livro que a criana
estava lendo. Para sua surpresa, descobriu que era uma cpia do Novo Testamento.
Jogando o livro no cho, ele disse garota: "Sua coisinha tola, como voc pode ler li
vros estpidos como este?"
A criana olhou para ele, surpresa e chocada, e chorou: ", por favor, no fale assim
do meu Livro. Minha me est doente de cama, e este livro nosso nico conforto."
A Realidade Abre um Corao
As simples palavras ditas pela menina deixaram William Hone pensativo. "Aquelas
pobres e simples pessoas", disse a si mesmo, "esto em apuros; a me doente, a criana
muito nova, e ainda assim eles encontraram algo real naquele Livro; elas tm algo
que as anima na vida e na morte. O que eu poderia dar que poderia ser de confor
to, ou algo que consolasse perante a morte? Tudo o que eu fao tirar as esperanas d
as pessoas. Sem Deus, sem Cristo, sem cu, sem inferno. E o que eu tenho para mim
mesmo alm de nada, em vez de algo real?"
William Hone comeou a estudar o Livro, e foi salvo com uma salvao eterna. Tornou-se
sua maior alegria falar aos outros sobre as grandes coisas que Deus tinha feito
a ele. Na folha de rosto de sua Bblia ele escreveu as seguintes palavras:
"O mais orgulhoso corao que j bateu
Foi subjugado em mim."
Voc j leu e pensou cuidadosamente sobre a Palavra de Deus, a Bblia? Voc toma seu tem
po, quando sozinho, para ver nela quais so os pensamentos de Deus quanto ao pecad
o e a salvao? Ele te ama, e deseja te salvar e satisfazer seu corao para sempre.
"Eu vim para que tenham vida, e a tenham com abundncia." (Joo 10:10)

it that you read such stupid books as this?

The child looked at him in shocked surprise, and cried, Oh, please dont talk that
way about my Book. My mother is sick in bed, and this book is our only comfort.
All I do is take away peoples hopes. No God, no Christ, no heaven, no hell.
Reality Opens a Heart
The simple words spoken by the girl set William Hone thinking. Those poor, simple
people, he said to himself, are in trouble; the mother sick, the child young, and
yet they have found something real in that Book; they have got something on whi
ch to live and die. What could I give them that would be a comfort now, or a sup
port in death? All I do is take away peoples hopes. No God, no Christ, no heaven,
no hell. And what have I for myself but nothing, instead of something real?
William Hone began to study the Book, and was saved with an everlasting salvatio
n. It became his greatest joy to tell to others what great things God had done f
or him. On the flyleaf of his Bible he wrote the following words:
The proudest heart that ever beat
Has been subdued in me.
Have you carefully read and thought about Gods Word, the Bible? Do you take time
when alone to see in it what Gods thoughts of sin and salvation are? He loves you
, and He wants to save you and to satisfy your heart forever.
I am come that they might have life and that they have it more abundantly (John 10
:10).
