What Are Adjectives?

Adjectives are words that describe the qualities or states of being of
nouns: beautiful, enormous, yellow, fun, fast. They can also describe the
quantity of nouns: many, few, millions, eleven.

Example:
Margareth wore a beautiful hat to the pie-eating contest.
My cake should have sixteen candles.
The scariest villain of all time is Darth Vader.

Uses of Adjectives
Adjectives tell the reader how much—or how many—of something you’re
talking about, which thing you want passed to you, or which kind of
something you want.
Os adjetivos dizem ao leitor quanto - ou quantos - de alguma coisa que você está
falando, que coisa deseja passar para você ou que tipo de coisa deseja.
Example:
Please use three white flowers in the arrangement.

Three and white are modifying flowers.

Three e white estão modificando flowers.

Adjectives come in three forms: absolute, comparative, and superlative.
Os adjetivos vêm em três formas: absoluta, comparativa e superlativa.

Absolute adjectives
describe something in its own. descrever algo por si só.
A cool guy
A messy desk
A mischievous cat
Garrulous squirrels

Comparative adjectives
make a comparison between two or more things. faz uma comparação entre
duas ou mais coisas
For most one-syllable adjectives, the comparative is formed by adding the
suffix -er (or just -r if the adjective already ends with an e). For two-syllable
adjectives ending in -y, replace -y with -ier. For multi-syllable adjectives, add
the word more.
Para a maioria dos adjetivos de uma sílaba, o comparativo é formado adicionando
o sufixo -er (ou apenas -r se o adjetivo já terminar com um e). Para adjetivos de
duas sílabas que terminam em -y, substitua -y por -ier. Para adjetivos com várias
sílabas, adicione a palavra mais.

A more mischievous cat
More garrulous squirrels

Superlative adjectives
indicate that something has the highest degree of the quality in question.

One-syllable adjectives become superlatives by adding the suffix -est (or just -
st for adjectives that already end in e). Two-syllable adjectives ending in -
y replace -y with -iest. Multi-syllable adjectives add the word most.
Os adjetivos de uma sílaba se tornam superlativos adicionando o sufixo -est (ou
apenas -st para adjetivos que já terminam em e). Adjetivos de duas sílabas
terminando em -y substituem -y por -iest. Os adjetivos com várias sílabas são os
que mais acrescentam a palavra.
