Between 1990 and 2010, the Birth Rate decreased in all countries. Iceland is the only one
that signals a rise until 2015 and then a slight decline.
The evolution of the Birth Rate in India is the result of the application of anti-natalist measures,
such as sterilization; in Iceland, the application of natalist measures to encourage birth rates
made it possible to reverse the decrease in birth rates.

2005 começou a aumentar na Islândia, mantendo Portugal a tendência decrescente,
sem assegurar a renovação de gerações. Estima-se entre 2015 – 2020 que a TN em
Portugal se situe em 8%o, contra os 14%o da Islândia no mesmo período.

started to increase in Iceland, maintaining Portugal the downward trend, without ensuring the
renewal of generations. Between 2015 - 2020, it is estimated that TN in Portugal stands at 8% o,
against 14%o in Iceland in the same period.
4. Em Portugal deverá ser implementada uma política natalista para inverter a tendência
decrescente da taxa de natalidade. Exemplos de medidas: aumento da licença de
maternidade e paternidade, promoção do emprego seguro e bem remunerado,
criação de condições de trabalho que conciliem a vida familiar e a vida profissional.
In Portugal, a Natality policy should be implemented to reverse the downward trend in the
birth rate. Examples of measures: increase in maternity and paternity leave, promotion of safe
and well-paid employment, creation of working conditions that reconcile family and
professional life.
