Abstract
Abrasive blasting is a process of surface treatment, with the objective of increasing the adhesion of the
surface allowing the proper anchoring of the coating, eliminating all surface impurities, such as oxidized
regions, unwanted layers of paint, allowing the contact of the coating with the substrate, and rough profile.
With the emergence of higher performance products, epoxy resins, partially replacing oil-based products,
require better surface preparation. These products, with greater mechanical resistance and impermeability,
need greater anchoring on the surface to fulfill their role, which is to protect the surface and prevent
corrosion, the previous process which is the preparation of the surface, is the most important, through
abrasive blasting , increase the roughness profile, providing greater fixation of the corrosion protection. The
manual sanding together with mechanical treatment, has no comparison, in relation to the performance and
the characteristics offered by the abrasive blasting, which works in the following way: a flow is thrown, against
the metallic structure that you want to work, the used material can be steel grit, aluminum oxide and sand.
The roughness obtained after the process must meet the established standards, taking into account the
environment where it will be worked and other weather conditions.
