A sabedoria no se transmite, preciso que ns a descubramos fazendo
uma caminhada que ningum pode fazer em nosso lugar e que ningum
nos pode evitar, porque a sabedoria uma maneira de ver as coisas.

Topic # 7
PRACTICE
As PRACTICE is the process that we all have to train our BODY and MIND to
work together, I write here some ideas and thoughts that I hope to be
helpful and practical:
i. Have a specific objective in mind.
ii. Have an adequate mental disposition to practice, otherwise, you will be
losing
time and being counter-productive.
iii. Do your basic exercises daily, including scales in all speeds, dynamics,
colors,
styles and articulations
iv. Practice in a consistent ambience, not distracting!
v. Have a balanced diet. Include exercises, studies, solos, orchestra and
band
excerpts and chamber music.
vi. Remember to breathe always in a very relaxed manner and deeply. What
sometimes and apparently seems to be a problem of articulation, can be
the emission of the air. Think about flow the air.
vii. Practice with a metronome and have patience to work very slowly and
then in
other tempos until you can achieve the right tempo!
viii. Fight the Demons! Instead of 5 or 6 hours of non-focus work, spend 2
or 3
productive hours. Be efficient in the time that you have. A fraction of 45
minutes is a good period of time. Make breaks for an adequate recovery.
ix. Record yourself from different angles (by side, front and back).
x. Practice in all volumes and dynamics. Go to the extremes, especially
when you
play in soft dynamics. Maximize your dynamic spectrum.
xi. Practice your breath and tongue articulations in the instrument.
xii. Allow other people to listen to you and be critical.
xiii. Play some movements from the Bachs cello suites for cello players. Ask
them
to play for you. Observe their bow movements and realize that their bow
is your air!
xiv. Play with the Music Minus One. Play JAZZ!
xv. Allow yourself to experiment ad-libitum (our of box). HAVE FUN!
xvi. Practice the movement of your fingers in a very fast, relaxed and
precise
manner. Dont allow the noise of your pistons or rotary to disturb your
sound.
xvii. Dont be afraid to sound bad. Take risks.
xviii. Play don't Practice.
xix. Listen to your body and be an intelligent musician/athlete. Be positive
and
honest to yourself. Learn to say NO!
xx. Be efficient and use your time without the instrument in a valid practice.
xxi. Play SCALES!

.......Beliefs
Delays teaching strategy reflects her strong beliefs about learning and
teaching. She expresses these in statements like the following:
* Given enough time and ways of measurement [means of measuring
achievement] people can learn to do anything
* You can teach anything if you can figure out how people learn it
* Learning is becoming more aware
* People learn best when they feel successful at it
* People learn best when theyre having fun,
* There is always a right approach its just a matter of finding it
These beliefs reflect what neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) writer Robert
Dilts has described as the essential components for outcome achievement:
outcome expectancy (that a desired outcome is possible in principle), selfefficacy expectancy (that a student is capable of learning or doing what is
required to reach the outcome) and response expectancy (that the process
they have embarked on will lead to achievement).
Strategy
According to the NLP practitioner David Gordory it is useful to think of a
strategy as having the following features:
* A primary criterion a person strives to meet
* The evaluations a person makes to determine whether or not the criterion
has been met
* The steps followed to meet the criterion
* The alternative procedures in case the normal steps are unsuccessful
* The emotions habitually experienced as a background to the strategy
Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we
think of it; the tree is the real thing.
Abraham Lincoln
Don't worry when you are not recognized, but strive to be worthy of
recognition.
That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as
well.
My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are
content with your failure.
The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from
the support of a cause we believe to be just.
You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.
Abraham Lincoln
We should be too big to take offense and too noble to give it.
