TRADITIONAL POPULATIONS OF THE AMAZON RURAL SPACE
KNOWLEDGE AND SUSTENTABILITY IN A QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITY
IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF IGARAP-A (PA)
ABSTRACT
The present work has the objective of demonstrating the importance of the
extension activities carried out in the rural area of the municipality of Igarap-Au,
northeast of the Par State, to exchange knowledge with local population. The reaserch
and work carried out in the Quilombola Remnant Community of Nossa Senhora do
Livramento is important and necessary for the recognition of the traditional knowledge
that little by little is being lost with the elders because it is not passed on to the new
generations, which causes the loss of identity, Culture and of the ancestral relations of
that place. Using certain games with the children and maintaining the dialogue with the
older people of the community, the academic extension could provide analyzes about the
place and the territory itself. Based on the actions developed, the aim is to think of the
Quilombola Territory as a protected area and to identify its relation with sustainability
and with the rural space in which it is inserted, besides listing local knowledge as an
important and essential source of knowledge. As methodology, a bibliographical review
to discuss concepts, workshops and interviews with the oldest residents. In this view, we
can obtain partial results of the proposed questions, among them, the paving of the PA-
242 highway, one of the main changes currently experienced, which has been causing an
increase in the flow of people, bringing with it a substantial change in the dynamics of
the Rural territory and community place.
