Interpretation of Results

The first part of the experiment is to observe the parameters of two types of pads: T – pad and
Pi-pad. The computed part is obtained by using the formula provided on the lab manual, with the values
of the resistors measured.

The second part is by using passive filters. Unlike pads, filters contain frequency dependent
components like capacitors and inductors. We used an L-type low pass filter using a resistor and a
capacitor. The data from the frequency response of the circuit has been plotted with respect to the voltage
at the output. The same is done for a high pass filter, but the output is at the resistor.

Conclusion

This experiment has three objectives: (a) identify and determine the resistance values of T-pad
and pi – pad, (b) compute the insertion loss of T – pad and pi – pad, and (c) demonstrate the effect of
varying the terminating resistance on the input resistance of the T – pad and the pi – pad.

Pads and attenuators are networks consisting of resistors that are used to reduce the voltage or
current of a particular signal. The configuration of resistors will tell how much loss in decibels will be
introduced by the attenuator.
