The region of Marajó is in the island of the same name, at the mouth of the
Amazon river. The Marajoara phase is comprised between 400 and 1350
BC. The Marajó Indians who inhabited the island made funerary urns,
richly decorated, that determine the social hierarchy of the buried person
and demonstrate the existence of a complex and organized society in
social classes. They are rare and beautiful specimens, both in their forms
and in their exquisite execution.
