Como vimos no episódio, Ray está tão animado com
a partida de futebol (football match) que não consegue
concentrar-se no trabalho.
Para d ize r que um time joga contra outro, usamos a
preposição against.
Arsenal is playing against Chelsea.

O Arsenal vai jogar contra o Chelsea.
Diferente do português, no inglês, o substantivo time (team),

que se refere a um grupo de jogadores, pode associar-se
a um verbo tanto no singular quanto no plural. Quando o
time é considerado uma unidade singular é comum usar o
verbo no singular.
A s pessoas que praticam um esporte coletivo são chamadas

de jogadores (players), neste caso eles são jogadores de
futebol (football players) ou futebolistas (footballers).
Ray está surpreso que o técnico (coach) coloque um

jovem centroavante (young centre forw ard) na partida
(in the match). Centroavante (centre forw ard) é uma
posição importante que requer um jogador forte (strong
player). Ray, que está preocupado que o jovem não tenha
experiência suficiente, d iz:
He's too young to be in the running fo r such a position.

Ele é muito jovem para estar disputando tal posição.
Também podemos usar essa expressão num contexto de

trabalho, por exemplo:
I am in the running fo r the position of chairman of the

company.
Eu estou disputando a posição de presidente da
empresa.
Ray também está preocupado com o fato de que eles estão

jogando com o goleiro reserva (reserve goalkeeper).
Um jogador deve ser substituído pelo reserva quando

está machucado. Nesse caso, usa-se a palavra injured.

Chamamos isso de formação (formation) porque descreve

Hoje em dia, o 4-4-2 é uma formação comum, mas

tipo de futebol que o técnico quer que o time jogue:
mais defensivo (defensive football) ou ofensivo (attacking

O campo, a área retangular onde se joga a partida, pode

ser chamado, em inglês, de pitch ou playing field.

Como pudemos ver no diálogo, Lucy pediu a Em ily que

preparasse urn martini, tal como o do famoso James Bond
- ou seja, batido, não misturado (shaken not stirred). Em
