RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Viable seeds of some species of plants, don't germinate, even if the environmental
conditions are favorable. Therefore, the need exists of using methods pre-
germinative to allow overcoming the numbness, making possible the expression of
the maxim germination of the lot. The present work had with objective to identify the
most efficient and viable methods in the overcoming the tegument (Sapindus
saponaria L.) seeds and the use of the test of electric conductivity of mass as
complement for evaluation of the physiologic quality of the seeds. The experiment
was driven at the laboratory of seeds of the Federal Institute of Minas Gerais, (IFMG)
campus São João Evangelista. The seeds used in the test were coming of the area
of Viçosa MG. The accomplished treatments were: germination (witness) test,
mechanical scarification in emery, immersion in sulfuric acid 98 (H2SO4)% in two
times, 90 and 120 minutes and immersion in hot water for 10 minutes and 24 hours.
The mechanical scarification presented the best answers in the overcoming of the
numbness, reaching measured of 34% of germination in the end of the test. The
accomplished treatments were: germination (witness) test, mechanical scarification in
emery, immersion in sulfuric acid 98 (H2SO4)% in two times, 90 and 120 The seeds
submitted to the treatments with hot water T4 and T5, they were not satisfactory in
the break of the numbness in soap dish seeds not having germination in those
treatments, already the treatments with H2SO4 T2 and T3, presented germination of 3
and 12% respectively, not having significant difference among them. The largest
values of CE were where also where it was obtained the largest germination (T6)
percentages, with an average of 7897,1 µS.cm-1.g-1 of seed, presenting a factor of
correlation 0,9647 among those parameters.

(BRADNOCK; MATTHEWS, 1970; YAKLICH; ABDUL-BAKI, 1975 e TAO, 1978).
Loeffler et al. (1988) evidenciaram a importância do teor inicial de água nas
sementes, danificações mecânicas e o número de sementes.
