PRESENT SIMPLE

Usamos o Present Simple para falar sobre fatos, hábitos e rotinas.

Exemplo: I eat an apple every day.

(Eu como uma maçã todos os dias.)

Quando usamos o Present Simple na Terceira Pessoa, ou seja, com HE, SHE ou IT
devemos acrescentar o –S no final do verbo.

Quando o verbo termina com –SH, -CH, -X, -Z e -O acrescentamos –ES no final do
verbo:
Exemplo: She watches television. (watch)
He goes to school every day. (go)

Quando o verbo termina em –Y e antes da letra –Y temos uma consoante, tiramos a

letra –Y e acrescentamos –IES:
Exemplo: She studies English. (study)

Se antes da letra –Y temos uma vogal, devemos apenas acrescentar um –S:

Exemplo: He plays football.

Se um verbo não se encaixar nas duas regras acima, apenas acrescentamos o –S.

Exemplo: She eats an apple every day. (eat)

Sendo assim, quando usamos I, YOU, WE ou THEY o verbo permanece normal.

Exemplos: I, You, We, They read a book every month.

He, She, It reads a book every month.

I, You, We, They play football every week.

He, She, It plays football every week.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Usamos o PRESENT CONTINUOUS para indicar que uma ação está acontecendo no
momento em que se fala.
Quando usamos o PRESENT CONTINUOUS precisamos usar o Verb TO BE no presente:
VERB TO BE:
Affirmative Negative Interrogative
I am – I’m I´m not Am I…?
You are – You’re You aren’t Are you…?
He is – He’s He isn’t Is he…?
She is – She’s She isn’t Is she…?
It is – It’s It isn’t Is it…?
We are – We’re We aren’t Are we…?
They are – They’re They aren’t Are they…?

Sendo assim, usa-se esta estrutura:

Verb TO BE no presente + gerúndio do verbo que indica a ação.

Para colocarmos o verbo no gerúndio basta acrescentarmos –ING no verbo.

Exemplos:

AFF: I am writing a letter. (write) NEG: I’m not writing a letter.

(Eu estou escrevendo uma carta) INT: Am I writing a letter?

(Você está comendo uma maçã.) INT: Are you eating an apple?

* NUNCA se esqueça de colocar o VERB TO BE junto com o verbo acrescido de –ING.
