O Burel um tecido artesanal portugus, de origem serrana,
feito totalmente de l.
Depois de carmeada e cardada, a l transforma-se em mecha.
A mecha torcida na fiao e transforma-se em fio. Este passa pela
urdideira originando a teia. O tear transforma a teia em xerga.
A xerga passa pelo batano e por outros tratos e transforma-se
finalmente em burel.
O Burel um tecido muito resistente e verstil que, das capas
e casacos para os dias de chuva, neve e frio na montanha,
evoluiu para inmeras ideias e solues de design, acompanhadas
por uma vasta gama de texturas, padres e cores.
Burel is an artisanal Portuguese fabric made entirely from wool
and comes from the mountain regions of Portugal.
After being carded, the wool is transformed into a mesh.
The mesh is then twisted in the spinning process and turned into
thread. The thread is then woven into a fabric, which is then transformed into bunting at the loom. The bunting is then submitted to a
pounding process and other processes, until it is finally transformed
into burel.
Burel is a very resistant and versatile fabric that has evolved
from being used for capes and coats for rainy, snowy or cold days up
in the mountains, to now being incorporated in new ideas
and design solutions, accompanied by a vast range of textures,
patterns, and colours.

burel, o tecido de l mais tradicional na indstria de lanifcios local, agora utilizado de
uma forma muito diferente e inovadora.
Acreditamos nos saberes e fazeres da Vila, em recriar o passado, tornando-o presente
para ser sempre o agora.
We have revived the production of burel in one of the last standing wool factories of
Manteigas, a small town in the heart of the Serra da Estrela mountain ranges, creating
products that bring together exciting new concepts and innovative design...
We believe in the know-how and wisdom of our villages, in re-creating the past and
making it present, so that it might be forever now.

Tudo comeou em 2010 na vila portuguesa de Manteigas, na Serra da Estrela, numa sala da
antiga fbrica Lanifcios Imprio a Sala das Linhas, com o intuito de trabalhar o tecido
mais tradicional na indstria de lanifcios local o Burel.
A se pensou em pr em prtica um projeto sustentvel, especial e nico, cheio de
alma e paixo, onde cada pea que produzimos um pedao da histria do saber, de
uma indstria da sua prpria histria.
Assim nasceu a Burel Factory, com o forte empenho de manter vivo mas tambm
reinventar o valor das riquezas da regio, combinando a arte e o saber dos teceles da
vila com o design de hoje, criando peas originais, de trao contemporneo, invadindo
casas, escritrios, hotis, empresas, em forma de tapetes, almofadas, fundos de cama,
bancos, revestimentos de parede, mochilas, sacos, ... criando as suas peas!
It all started in 2010 in an abandoned room of the old Imprio Wool Factory the Thread
Room in the Portuguese village of Manteigas, located in the Serra da Estrela mountain
range. Our objective was to work with the most traditional fabric of the local wool industry burel.
There we envisaged a sustainable project, unique and special, filled with soul and passion,
where each piece produced is a part of the history of the know-how of an industry a
part of its own history.
Thus the Burel Factory project came into being, with a strong drive to not only keep alive
but also reinvent the value of the regions natural resources, combining the art and knowhow of the village weavers with modern design, creating original works with a contemporary trait. These pieces would invade homes, offices, hotels, companies, in the shape of
carpets, pillows, bed spreads, benches, inner wall linings, backpacks, bags, ... creating
their own pieces!

No cimo da Serra, sombra das Penhas Douradas, admiramos a cumplicidade entre

pastor e rebanho, ambos com a mesma pele, a l, s que a l do seu capote de burel
tomou as cores da terra, dos penhascos, num fundo forte, quente, protetor...
Com ele descemos at Manteigas, ouvimos o barulho ensurdecedor das mquinas que
fiavam, tingiam, teciam... o burel...
E o apego forte a esta proteo aconchegante no nos paralisou, antes nos impeliu
a dar-lhes mais vida numa grande paleta de cores e numa diversidade de aplicaes
que vo enchendo a nossa imaginao...
On the tops of the mountains, in the shadow of the Penhas Douradas, we admire the
complicity between shepherd and flock, both bearing the same skin wool except
that the wool of the shepherds coat has taken on the colours of the land, of the cliffs,
in a strong, warm, and protecting backdrop
We follow the shepherd on his downward trek to Manteigas, and we hear the deafening sound of the machines that spin, dye, weave the burel
And the strong addiction to this comforting protection did not paralise us, but impelled us to give it even more life, in a huge palette of colours and a diversity of applications that floods our imagination...

Com ele descemos por veredas at Manteigas, ouvimos o barulho
das mquinas que cardam, fiam, tecem...o burel..
E depois a Serra partiu para a Cidade com o encanto dos seus
perfumes e o aconchego da sua l para logo fazer crescer em
ns o apelo para que a conheamos e nos deslumbremos com as
suas paisagens, cores, penhascos, rios e lagoas numa acolhedora e
reconfortante paragem na Casa das Penhas Douradas

O burel um tecido de elevada resistncia e robustez, caractersticas que lhe permitem resistir trao, rotura, presso e luz, suportando o uso intensivo, sem alterar
a cor e a forma, e tornando-o ideal para aplicar em revestimentos interiores.
Nesta rea a Burel Factory executa medida diversas solues de revestimentos,
painis de parede, cabeceiras de cama , tapetes entre outras. conferindo-lhes uma
identidade nica, realada por uma vasta gama de pontos e cores, trabalhados
manualmente.
O burel, sendo 100% l, um excelente isolante acstico, que reduz a reverberao
do som e limita a sua propagao.
A gama de revestimentos e mdulos acsticos da Burel Factory combina solues
criativas e eficazes na absoro do som, adequadas a espaos comerciais, escritrios,
hotelaria, habitao, entre outros. tambm a soluo ideal para organizar espaos
open space, atravs de painis e blocos acsticos que permitem distinguir zonas de
trabalho e de tranquilidade, de zonas comuns e de circulao.
Burel is a highly robust and resistance fabric which is resistant to traction, ripping,
pressure, and daylight, and supports frequent usage without changing colour or
shape, thus becoming ideal for use as a lining in interior spaces.
Burel Factory offers different lining solutions which are made to measure wall panels,
headboards, carpets among other solutions thus taking on a uniqueness which is
emphasized by the wide range of stiches and colours, all handcrafted.
Given its composition - 100% wool - Burel is also an excellent acoustic insulator, reducing sound reverberation and propagation.
Burel Factorys range of acoustic linings and modules combines creative solutions
with efficient sound absorption, perfectly suited for commercial surfaces, offices, hotels and homes. It is also ideal to organise open space areas. Acoustic panels and
blocks can be used to separate working or quiet areas from general use or public
areas.

As fibras de l no queimam e formam uma bola (fundem), retraindo-se no ponto e contacto, devido humidade e ao azoto
(NH3) de que so constitudas. Por isso recomenda-se mantas
com 100% de l para extinguir as chamas de pequenos fogos.
O Burel pouco inflamvel, suportando temperaturas at 560C
sem se incendiar. Perante temperaturas superiores, arde lentamente, no propaga a chama e no liberta gases txicos.
O Burel no derrete, no pinga e no emite fumos, sendo esta
ltima a principal causa de morte nos fogos e dificuldade de
acesso das equipas de salvamento.
The wool fibers do not burn and form a ball (merge), wincing at
the point and contact due to moisture and nitrogen (NH3) that are
made. Therefore it is recommended rugs 100% wool to extinguish
the flames of small fires.
The Burel is slightly flammable, enduring temperatures up to 560
C without ignite. Towards higher temperatures, smolders, not
propagate the flame and does not release toxic gases.
The Burel not melt, drip and emits no fumes, the latter being the
main cause of death in fires and lack of access for rescue teams.

A suavidade do Burel depende da suarda e da finura da l.
As solues de pufes, almofadas, biombos, divisrias, painis e

totens em Burel proporcionam um elevado conforto acstico mas
tambm esttico.
As solues modulares acsticas podem ser utilizadas para organizar espaos abertos e dinmicos e criar zonas de
conforto e tranquilidade.
Estas peas podem ser utilizadas em inmeros espaos, dentro
da enorme diversidade existente ou customizada, tais como halls
de entrada, corredores, escritrios, open-space, meeting points,
think tanks, salas, restaurantes, etc.
O Burel um isolante acstico natural que limita a propagao do

som. Por ser 100% l, o ar circula entre as fibras, permitindo que
se torne num excelente isolante trmico e acstico, mantendo a
temperatura do ar e abafando o som ambiente.
As caractersticas nicas da l conferem ao Burel um elevado grau
de isolamento trmico, acstico e anti-vibratrio, sendo por isso
utilizado e recomendado nos revestimentos e/ou estruturas de
espaos comerciais, espaos interiores de edifcios, escritrios, casas, estdios de gravao, espaos de lazer, entre outros.
O Burel pode ser utilizado em casas e edifcios de vrios nveis pois
ajuda a reduzir a reverberao do som e a transmisso de rudo
entre os vrios espaos e pisos.
A suarda da l (lanolina natural produzida pelo animal) permite

que a l resista trao e rotura.
O Burel, tal como a l, tem uma qualidade nica de robusticidade
que lhe permite resistir ao achatamento e recuperar apesar de ter
presses repetidas.
Os tapetes de Burel mantm uma aparncia tima, tornando-se
por isso uma excelente e confortvel soluo para revestir os pavimentos. Tambm os pufes e estofos em Burel podem suportar o
uso intensivo sem alterar a cor e a forma.

The Burel is a natural acoustic insulator that limits the propagation of sound. For be 100% wool, air flows between fibers, allowing them to make an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator,
maintaining the temperature of the air and muffling the sound
environment.
The unique characteristics of wool give the Burel a high degree of
thermal, acoustic and anti-vibration isolation, being so used and
recommended in the coatings and / or structures of commercial
space, interior spaces of buildings, offices, houses, recording studios, leisure facilities, among others.
The Burel can be used in homes and buildings of various levels as
it helps to reduce the reverberation of sound and noise transmission between the various spaces and floors.
The yolk of wool (natural lanolin produced by the animal) allows

wool resist tensile and tear.
The Burel, such as wool, has a unique quality that allows you robusticidade resist flattening and recover despite repeated pressures.

O Burel, por ser 100% l, um dos tecidos mais higroscpicos que
se conhece, podendo absorver maior quantidade de gua que os
restantes tecidos de fibras naturais e artificiais.
A l uma fibra ausente de medula, portanto oca. O seu interior
oco quando isento de humidade, preenchido por ar, e quando
imobilizado, mau condutor trmico, conferindo-lhe excelentes
condies para combater o frio na construo e no vesturio.
Na presena de um ambiente hmido, o ar existente no interior da
fibra lanar poder ser substitudo por gua, dando l a capacidade de absorver at 35% do seu peso em humidade, aparentando
estar seca e sem que se apresente hmida ao tato.
Quando usado como vesturio, reage s flutuaes da temperatura
do corpo, deixando-o transpirar e mantendo-o num ambiente estvel. O Burel, ao absorver humidade, liberta calor. Assim, quando
uma pessoa veste um artigo de Burel, ao passar de um ambiente
quente e seco para outro frio e hmido, o calor libertado pela l
impede uma transio brusca de temperatura.
The Burel , being 100% wool, is one of the most hygroscopic fabric
which is known and may absorb more water than the remaining
fabric of natural and synthetic fibers .
Wool is a missing bone marrow , so hollow fiber . Your inner hollow when free of moisture , is filled with air, and when stationary
is bad thermal conductor , giving it excellent to combat the cold
conditions in the construction and clothing.
In the presence of a moist environment , air existing inside the
fiber lanar may be replaced by water to give wool capable of absorbing up to 35% of its weight in moisture , appearing to be dry
and without presenting wet to the touch.
When used as clothing, reacts to fluctuations in body temperature
, leaving him sweating and keeping it in a stable environment .
The Burel , by absorbing moisture , releases heat . So when a
person wears an article of Burel , changing from a warm, dry environment to another cold and wet , the heat released from wool
prevents an abrupt transition temperature.

SARA LAMURIAS
Nasceu em Lisboa, Portugal, em 1976. Licenciou-se
em Design de Moda pela Faculdade de Arquitetura de
Lisboa, em 2002. Estagiou na marca Bless, em Berlim,
e de seguida inicia um projeto prprio ao qual chama
aforestdesign que, desde Maro de 2005, integra
a plataforma LAB da ModaLisboa. Entre 2005 e 2010
participa na Bread & Butter. Em Setembro de 2007 e
2009, vence o concurso Fast da Whos Next em Paris e,
em Janeiro de 2008, participa no Ideal Showroom, na
Berlin Fashion Week.
Tem participado em vrias exposies, nomeadamente,
na Bo Marais em Paris, na Fabrica Features, na Experimenta Design e Nike 1-1 em Lisboa.
Em 2008, com o Projeto Combo, ganha um apoio
pontual da Direo Geral das Artes e a acreditao do
Centro Portugus de Design.
Desde 2006 tem vindo a colaborar com vrias instituies no ensino de Design de Vesturio: Universidade
da Beira Interior, Faculdade de Arquitetura, ESAD,
Modatex e Casa Pia.
Em 2010 convidada pelo Centro Portugus de Design
para expor no evento Design Portugal Pavilho de
Portugal_ Expo Shangai 2010.
Em 2011 inicia uma parceria com a marca Burel Factory com o projeto The Birdwatchers, a continuidade
deste projeto leva instalao com o mesmo nome na
Galeria Round The Corner, em 2012, em Lisboa.
Desde ento tem desenvolvido tambm produtos para
marcas portuguesas como a Piodo, Gaspar & Hoffman, Design mo, etc.
ALIX HENRIQUES
Was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1976. She has finished
her degree in Fashion Design at the Faculty of Architecture in Lisbon, in 2002.
She did an internship at Bless in Berlin and right after
she has started her own label by the name aforestdesign.
Since 2005, aforestdesign has been part of the Lisbon
Fashion Week Lab showcase.
Between 2005 and 2010 has participated in the Bread and
Butter fair. In 2007s and 2009s has won the Fast contest
from Whos Next fair in Paris and in 2008 participated at
the Ideal Showroom at Berlins Fashion Week.
The brand was involved in several exhibitions such as
Bo Marais in Paris, Fabrica Features, EXD and Nike 1-1 in
Lisbon.
In 2008, wins the support of the DGartes and the Portuguese Design Centre with Combos Project that was also
exhibited at the Korea Design Biennale in 2009.
Since 2006, Sara Lamrias has been a visiting lecturer
at several Institutions, teaching Fashion Design at:
University of Beira Interior, Faculty of Architecture, ESAD
and Modatex.
In 2010 she was invited by Portuguese Design Centre
to exhibit at the event Design Portugal in the Portugal
Pavillion_Expo Shanghai.
In 2010 starts a collaboration with Burel Factory with The
birdwatchers project. The continuity of this project leads
to an installation in the Round The Corner Gallery, in
2012, in Lisbon.
Since then aforestdesign has been developing products
for several Portuguese brands such as Piodo, Gaspar &

Nasceu em Coimbra, Portugal, em 1975.

Licenciou-se em Engenharia Civil pela Universidade de
Coimbra.
Aps a licenciatura, e durante mais de dez anos, o
seu percurso profissional prendeu-se com a atividade
em que se formou a Engenharia Civil. No entanto,
o gosto pela criatividade, e em concreto pela arte da
tecelagem e da manufatura da l, esteve sempre presente, at que decidiu embarcar numa nova aventura
com a criao do seu prprio projeto que apelidou de
Canta de Galo.
Was born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1975.

She graduated in Civil Engineering from the University
of Coimbra.
After graduation, and during more than ten years, her
career was related with Civil Engineering. However the
taste for creativity, and specifically the art of weaving
and the manufacture of wool, was always present,
thus she decided to embark on a new adventure with
the creation of her own project named Canta de Galo.

Nasceu em 1963 em Luanda, Angola.
Frequentou curso de Gesto Empresarial e desenvolveu

profissionais, filhos e famlia, estiveram em primeiro
plano. No entanto, o Design, Inovao, Criatividade e
as Artes em geral, sempre fizeram parte de um mundo
paralelo s suas actividades principais.
Empreendedora em vrios aspectos da vida, criou
recentemente a loja online goolidoli.pt com roupas e
acessrios para beb.
com um desafio proposto pela loja Burel que este
projecto ganha vida.
As cores e o toque do burel, foram o ponto de partida
para a criao da marca bellas. Linhas simples,
personalizveis, funcionais e contemporneas.

companies. Her professional tasks along with children

responsibilities.
Entrepreneur in retail business, she recently created online store goolidoli.pt for a niche market, merchandising a
broad catalogue of clothing and accessories for premature
babies and more.
In partnership with Loja Burel starts a new Design project.
The live coulours and different touch and feel of Burel
fabric make the foundation and starting point of her new
project branded bellas.
Products are comprised of simple lines and with companion customizable accessories adaptable to customers
taste, being both practical and fashionable.

Nasceu em Pisa, Itlia, e vive h dez anos em Lisboa,
onde trabalha tambm como bailarina de dana
contempornea e tradutora. a autora da marca
Fulana Beltrana Sicrana, bonecos de pano nicos e de
coleco. Cada pea criada individualmente, sem a
utilizao de moldes, e feita mo por Benedetta
Maxia. Fulana e Fulano tm o cabelo preto, Beltrana e
Beltrano ruivo, Sicrana e Sicrano castanho e cada um
tem uma personalidade e um estilo prprios! Todas as
edies realizadas para a Burel so inspiradas e feitas
a partir de retalhos de tecidos criados e produzidos na
Burel Factory.

CLAUDIA COSTA
Was born in Pisa, Italy and she has been living in
Lisbon for ten years where she also works as a professional contemporary dancer and translator. She created
the brand Fulana Beltrana Sicrana, unique and collectible fabric art dolls. Each piece is created individually without a pattern and handmade by Benedetta
Maxia. Fulana has black hair, Beltrana has red hair
and Sicrana has brown hair and each one has her own
style and personality! All the editions made for Burel
are inspired and handmade from a combination of
textiles created and produced at Burel Factory.
Nasceu em Braga, Portugal, em 1980.

Formada em Arquitetura pela Universidade Lusada do
Porto, em 2003; com Master em Lighting Design pela
Universidade Politcnica de Madrid, em 2008. Em 2005
recebeu o Terceiro Prmio no Concurso Pblico de
Ideias, em parceria com o arquiteto Pedro Jordo. Em
2009 cria o atelier LOFF Arquitetura & Lighting Design.
Em 2012 foi selecionada como finalista na categoria de
Espaos por Portugal para a III Bienal Ibero Americana
de Design 2012.
O seu trabalho tem sido publicado, reconhecido e

Em 2012 criam a marca Carapau de Corrida, uma
marca 100% portuguesa. Divide-se em duas linhas de
produtos que partilham os mesmos conceitos:
contemporaneidade e reinveno de produtos tradicionais e cones portugueses. Peas de design, feitas artesanalmente com materiais tradicionais portugueses,
como o linho e o burel, constituem uma das linhas de
produtos da marca. Estas peas, aliam saberes antigos
a um design contemporneo.

CONCEICAO ABREU
Is a brand created by Rita Faria and Tiago Couto. Graduated in Communication Design by Fine Art University of
Porto and ESAD, they have been working together since
2007 in a project which they named Elasticodesign. The
works which have been developed are mainly in the
fields of the graphic design and illustration.
In 2012 they created Carapau de Corrida, a 100%
Portuguese brand. It is formed by two lines of products
sharing the same concept:
modernity and reinvention of traditional Portuguese
products and trademarks of the history of Portugal. Design objects handicraft made with traditional Portuguese
raw-materials such as linen and burel (woolen fabric)
and which combine ancient erudition with a contemporary design constitute one line of the products of the
brand.
Artista plstica e investigadora, nasceu em 1961, Portugal, onde hoje vive e trabalha.
Em 2012 termina o Mestrado em Arte Multimdia Fotografia, na Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa. Em
2010 (aps Bacharelato terminado em 1989) conclui a
Licenciatura em Dana da Escola Superior de Dana,
do Instituto Politcnico de Lisboa. No ano de 2000
completa o Projeto Individual em Pintura, e em 1998
os Estudos Completos de Pintura, na Escola Ar. Co, Lisboa. No ano de 1981 termina o Bacharelato em Design

Nasceu em 1982, em Portugal, e licenciou-se em
Design Industrial, em 2006. Em 2009 foi premiado com
o Prmio Daciano da Costa nos Prmios Nacionais e
Design, na categoria design industrial/equipamento. O
jri reforou a simplicidade e coerncia concetual dos
produtos e sistemas apresentados. Em 2010, com a
co-orientao do designer Carlos Aguiar, completou o
Mestrado em Design Integrado com a monografia sobre
o designer industrial Eduardo Afonso Dias, intitulada:
Duas dcadas de design de produto em portugus.
No mesmo ano, abriu a 0kcal Lda. Em 2013 torna-se
independente para explorar a juno entre design
industrial e o mundo que nos rodeia, criando novas
identidades para os objetos.

Was born in 1982, in Portugal, and studied Industrial
Design, graduating on 2006. In 2009 he was awarded
the Daciano da Costa in National Design Award in
the industrial/equipment design category. The jury
enhanced the simplicity and conceptual coherence of
the presented products and systems. In 2010, with the
co-orientation of designer Carlos Aguiar, he completed
a Master in Integrated Design with a monograph no
industrial designer Eduardo Afonso Dias entitled: Two
decades of product design in portuguese. In that same
year, he opened his own 0kcal Lda. In 2013 becomes
independent to explore the junction between industrial
design and the world around us, creating new identities for objects.

Ricardo Esprito Santo - ESAD, Joo Paulo Assuno
trabalhou desde logo para o atelier do Arquiteto Helder
Carita e estagiou no Centro de Artes Charnwood Arts
em Inglaterra.
Trabalha de forma independente como Designer de
Interiores, maioritariamente para espaos residenciais,
procurando sempre imprimir na linguagem dos seus
projetos um equilbrio entre as premissas do programa
e a memria dos espaos e dos objetos, valorizando a
personalidade do cliente.
No seu atelier, desenvolve uma oficina de txteis e confeo para decorao, de onde partiram participaes em
diversos figurinos para Teatro e Dana e onde comeou a
desenvolver o projeto de acessrios de vesturio.
Desta experincia nasceu a parceria com a marca Burel
Factory aliando o desenho das suas peas herana
cultural do tecido de burel.

In 2011 he develops a partnership with the

Licenciou-se em Design de Produto em 2008, tendo
seguidamente colaborado com a Fabrica (centro de

Secondo Me, Seletti ou Zanotta. Em 2009 juntou-se ao
atelier de Sam Baron e em 2010 comeou a desenvolver sries de produtos, continuando a explorar as
possibilidades do design, atravs da funo e materiais, colaborando com marcas como Munna , WEWOOD,
Piodo Group, Mantecas e Vista Alegre .

Is a Portuguese product designer. Graduating in Product
Design in 2008, he soon after joined Fabrica, Benettons
communications research centre, in the design studio.
This gave him the chance to work with brands such as
Secondo Me, Seletti or Zanotta. Since 2010 has been exploring the potencial of new products, and its strategic
use, together with brands such as Munna, WEWOOD,
Piodo Group, Mantecas or Vista Alegre.
Gonalo Campos prides on finding simple solutions,
through the sound use of materials and production
methods, in a process that starts from within the object
outwards.
Nasceu em Lisboa em 1980. Formado em Design de Moda pelo

London College of Fashion University of the Arts em 2003.
No mesmo ano estagia com Matthew Williamson em Londres.
Regressa a Portugal onde inicia a sua carreira como assistente
de Lidija Kolovrat, com quem trabalha durante 2 anos. Em
2005 integra o programa Design Mais promovido pelo Centro
Portugus de Design, atravs do qual vai trabalhar para a
empresa Silva e Sistelo, onde se torna responsvel pelo
desenvolvimento da coleco de alfaiataria masculina The
Board. Em parceria com esta mesma empresa desenvolve
um Fato-conceito que viria a ser exposto na Feira de Design
de Milo. Mantm desde 2005 uma relao estreita com a
industria,
trabalhando com diversas empresas incluindo o Grupo
Lanidor, onde foi responsvel criativo pela marca Globe.
Em 2007 co-fundador da marca White Tent, participando
regularmente em diversos eventos nacionais e internacionais:
ModaLisboa, London Fashion Week, Tranoi (Paris), Who is Next
(Paris), Bread and Butter Berlin, Pure London, entre vrios.
Foi Formador convidado na Modatex e na Universidade da
Beira Interior.
Em 2013 inicia a sua colaborao com a Burel Factory e lana
a marca de acessrios Pecegueiro & filhos.

Was born in Lisbon in 1980. He graduated in Fashion

Design at London College of Fashion - . University of the Arts
in 2003. In that same year he works as an intern at Matthew
Williamson in London. He returns to Portugal where he began
his career as assistant designer for Lidija Kolovrat , for whom
he worked for 2 years. In 2005 he enroles in the Design Mais
program sponsored by the Portuguese Design Centre.
Through this program he is placed as an assistant designer at
classic menswear company Silva & Sistelo, where he becomes
responsible for the development of the tailoring collection
The Board. In partnership with Silva & Sistelo he develops
a concept suit that would be exhibited at the Design Fair in
Milan. Since 2005 he maintains a close relationship with
the fashion industry , working with various companies
including the Lanidor Group. In 2007 he co-founded the brand
White Tent , regularly participating in various national and
international events - ModaLisboa, London Fashion Week,
Tranoi ( Paris), Who is Next ( Paris), Bread and Butter Berli ,
Pure London, among many.
He is a visiting tutor at Modatex and at the University of Beira
Interior .
In 2013 he starts collaborating with Burel Factory and
launches the accessories brand Pecegueiro & filhos .

RUI GRAZINA
Rui Grazina nasceu em Maputo, Moambique, em
1969, e licenciado pela Faculdade de Arquitetura do
Porto. Trabalhou como arquiteto numa vasta gama de
projetos em Londres e no Porto. Iniciou o seu trabalho
como designer de produto e de mobilirio em 2004,
tendo exposto em Londres, Barcelona, Frankfurt e Rio
de Janeiro, entre outros. Iniciou a sua colaborao com
a Burel Factory em 2012.

TIAGO SILVA
Rui Grazina was born in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1969.
He has a degree in Architecture from the Faculty of
Architecture of Porto. He worked as an architect on a
wide range of projects in London and Porto. He started
his product and furniture design in 2004, having
exhibited namely in, London, Barcelona, Frankfurt and
Rio de Janeiro. He started his collaboration with Burel
Factory in 2012.
Tiago Almeida Alves Silva nasceu em 1988, em Oliveira

Vencedor do concurso de ideias Burel e a Casa, em
2012, organizado pela Casa da Arquitetura em conjunto

pea de design para a CASA que inclusse o BUREL.
Atualmente, colabora como estagirio no atelier A43
Arquitetura, em Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto.
Tiago Almeida Alves Silva was born in 1988, in Oliveira

de Azemis, Portugal. Complete the Architecture course
in 2011, at Universidade da Beira Interior. Winner of the
ideas contest Burel e a Casa, in 2012, organized by
Casa da Arquitetura with Burel Factory, whose purpose
was to create a design object for HOME that included
the BUREL. Currently, he works as an intern at the studio A43 Arquitetura, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto.

SOFIA MACHADO
Ingressou na Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, onde em 2001, recebe o Prmio Pedro
Branco para o melhor aluno do 2 ano e a Bolsa de
Mrito para o melhor aluno do 4 ano. Ganha o 1 prmio para a construo do pavilho da FAUP na Queima
as Fitas, projecto que a leva ilha Terceira nos Aores
para construir uma variao num festival de roque. Em
2005/2006 estuda na cole Polytechnique Fdrale de
Lausanne como bolseira do programa Erasmus. Ainda
em Lausanne, trabalha no escritrio PRS Architects.
Ganha o 1 prmio o concurso internacional Oporto
Water Tanks para a localizao Amial, trabalho que
desenvolve em parceria com Nuno Pedrosa. Entre 2008
e 2009 colabora com Arq. Nuno Brando Costa. Em
2010 conclui o Mestrado em Arquitectura pela FAUP.
WALKABOUT CRAFTS
Sofia joined the Faculty of Architecture, University
of Porto, where in 2001, received the award Pedro
Branco for the best student of 2nd year and a Merit
Scholarship for the best student of 4th year.
Wins first prize for the construction of the pavilion of
the Queima das Fitas at FAUP, the project leads Sofia
to Azores to build a variance of the pavilion at a rock
festival.
In 2005/2006 studies at the Ecole Polytechnique Fdrale de Lausanne as scholarship in Erasmus program.
Also in Lausanne, workes at the office PRS Architects.
Wins 1st prize of international competition Oporto
Water Tanks, work developed in partnership with
Nuno Pedrosa.
In 2010 concluded a Master in Architecture at the
University of Porto.

de design.
Carlos Bessa licenciou-se em Arquitetura pela Escola
Superior Artstica do Porto, em 2004. Desde logo
iniciou a atividade com o atelier Pormenor Arquitetos.
Em 2011 integra a plataforma DezOnze, espao que
partilha com Ricardo Porto Ferreira e outros arquitetos
e artistas.
Ricardo Porto Ferreira licenciou-se em Arquitetura pela
Universidade do Porto, em 2007. Trabalhou no Brasil e
Holanda at que em 2010 estabelece-se no Porto onde
desenvolve a sua atividade em projetos independentes
como a Walkabout Crafts.

Is a studio created by Carlos Bessa and Ricardo Porto

Ferreira. Their work is inspired by nature in its ambivalences, structures and materials. The partnership with
craftsmen and research about technologies add value
to their projects aiming to transform the elements
used into their design proposals.
Carlos Bessa graduated in Architecture in 2004 at Escola Superior Artstica do Porto. Immediately after, he
began to work on Pormenor Architects studio. In 2011
he integrates the DezOnze creative platform, sharing
the studio with Ricardo Ferreira as well as other architects and artists.
Ricardo Ferreira graduated in Architecture in 2007 at
Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto. He
worked in Brazil and the Netherlands until 2010 when
he establishes in own practice in Porto, city where he
now develops actions in start-up projects like Walkabout Crafts.
